I’m new here, and trying to get back to normal

Hopeful_and_happy profile image

I went off Prozac (with doctor supervision) in late April. I had anxiety all last week, and I decided to wean back on the Prozac with my doctor’s support. I’m currently starting at 20mg every other day for a week, and then will move to 20mg everyday for a week, and then be back at 40mg everyday.

I’m just looking for some support here. I’m so worried that it’ll take longer than the two weeks that every website says it will take to feel like myself again. I’m worried about being a nuisance for an up coming bachelorette party for my sister on the week of the 30th.

Is anyone else experiencing the same things I am? Like, I know that one day I’ll be better, but when?

I went off meds for anxiety and depression also with doctor's oversight. It doesn't need to be a nightmare. b tmw, welcome to the group!

Welcome to the group! When I had to go back on Prozac, there was no slow going. I was directed to just start taking the 20mg per day straight away. I wonder why the different directions between doctors.

At any rate, I felt a difference within a week but it wasn’t enough; my depression was too far advanced by then so they upped my meds to 40mg/day. Again, within a week I felt some what stable.

If you are slowly working up to it I would guess (totally a guess) that you would need to be on at least 20 mg regularly before you notice anything. If you were on 40mg before, taking 20mg every other day seems like a substantial difference.

Maybe you can talk to your doctor about how fast you are able to up your meds in order to feel some sort of relief.

Welcome to the group and please let us know how you are doing.

That’s a good idea. I’ll try to call him! I just hate this never ending feeling of dread and I hate the restless night sleep. I’m really hoping this week goes by fast so that things can start leveling out

I had that too but required Kolonopin for anxiety as well to keep the panic away.

It is really tough knowing you are taking the steps needed to feel better but it isn’t happening right this second. Hang in there!

You’re right, I’m taking the steps. It’ll just take some time. Good things always do…

I loved prozac. It didn't restore me to "normal", but it did give me my energy back and some positive momentum to go about finding what my problem was and the stamina to apply a number of resources. I never had any regrets. Those were my working years and I didn't stop taking prozac because my life wasn't flexible enough to withstand another crash. I wish you well. Don't be afraid.

Seems to me that even with doctors supervision you didn't successfully withdraw from Prozac So you are back on prozac which is probably a good idea now you can do a very very gradual taper off prozac spread it across a year to do it successfully

You are so right Lizzo30, it takes time getting off any long term drug.Weaning slowly is a safe and effective way to go. :) xx
