Just have really been struggling with depression and anxiety lately. I have been hospitalized lately twice recently for this and have decided to undergo ect starting Thursday and I must say I'm scared.....any thoughts.

I’m sorry you are going through this. I’d assume that you have tried all other treatments and this is your last resort? I wasn’t even aware they’re still doing ECT. I know there’s this new type of therapy that actually uses magnets on the brain and it seems to be effective. I’m the end it’s whatever YOU and your healthcare provider recommend is best for you.

I actually had ect about 24 years ago and it worked then. I had 2 recent treatments but then got spooked and quit. This time I'm going to stick with it because my doctor recommended it to me. My wife has been having the treatments for two years and they have helped her a ton. I guess I just have to put on my big boy pants and get this done. I'm tired of feeling so down all the time...I've dealt with depression, anxiety and ocd for many years and I'm tired of it....this last patch has been really rough

I fully understand. If it’s something you want to do and are okay with go for it.

Thanks Adam....you finally get to a point where you'll try anything

I understand that I’m about to try anything but sadly where I live all psychiatrists are full

I get that. You can't even get a counselor here in Northern Wisconsin. And to see a psychiatrist we have to travel two hours there and back. We usually have to spend a night in a hotel and that's expensive.

Oh wow that’s horrible

I had 32 txs of ECT and it did not work. Then another time I had 32 txs again years apart and it did not work. I have major depression. My friend is no- polar and it worked for her. There is some permanent memory loss and I was told it would be temporary. My friend has some permanent memory loss also. If I had a chance to do it again I would choose magnetic therapy over ECT Everyone has there own opinion. I will pray for you.

Thanks Mauv...I had it 24 some odd years ago and it brought me out of a major low spot. I don't know why I'm nervous about it because it's painless

I will pray that it works for you.

So sorry you are having a rough time. I know someone who did ECT off and on as needed over her lifetime and it saved her life! She was vocal about it and it was the only thing to break her depression! She was a beautiful soul and lived to 94! She was active in her community and a real go getter. She used ECT to keep her going😍 I send prayers and all good things your way!

Above someone mentioned the magnets which is TMS. There is another thing out the: Ketomine Infusions. I had ECT close to 35yrs ago. It is much better now. You weigh the pros and cons and do what is best for you. Feel better soon .

Thank you for the support....my first recent etc is tomorrow so I'm kinda nervous but I know it's no huge deal to get it done.....it's just that it's still called surgery and it's far from it......I had ect 24 years ago and you're right....it's come a long way
