Creepy Lady at my Job

Okay, I just noped the fuck out at work. For backstory, I work at a doctor's office in an upstairs apartment for security. My boss was in another at the time when my other co-worker's phone rang. A friend of hers who she said she hadn't seen in over three years was downstairs. She told our receptionists to let her up. Immediately I freaked out. We obviously can't just allow randoms into our office. I ask if she was really coming up but I could muster more courage than that.

As soon as this woman comes up it's clear that she is NOT sober. My coworker knows this person as they dated her brother, who passed from addiction. And it's clear that this woman is also struggling with addiction.

Come to find out she came for money and a ride. She sounded desperate.

I'm afraid now that she knows how to get to my coworker and inside the building, she may come again asking for money, or because it is a doctor's office she may try robbing the place. I'm scared and no longer feel safe at work what should I do?

Run it by the boss/owner. If the receptionist has to let them in then your boss can tell them not to. End of story. Is that something you feel comfortable doing?

Tell your boss. If anything escalates leave the building and when outside, call the police.

Dear Bookishbunny,

Blueruth is absolutely correct. It is, in fact, highly 'likely' that the Boss honestly Didn't Realise- or even Imagine- that a Co-Worker's Friend would Pose a 'Problem'. It probably didn't even 'entre his/ her head' that Anybody would be Intimidated by such an action.

You need to Speak directly to the Boss/ Head of Department/ Shop Floor Manager- or whoever 'Allowed', this person, access and Explain your- very genuine- Fears. I'm quite sure that ANY 'decent' Boss would/ will find a Solution. (Maybe meeting with him/ her OUTSIDE the premises.

With a little 'Give & Take', a 'Good Old Fashioned' Compromise is Highly Likely Bookishbunny. I'm quite sure that this CAN be Sorted.

Bookish, you should be worried. Addiction drives people to do terrible things. Boundaries are out the window. Stay safe.
