So I have a problem, when Im in a relationship and really happy I tend to stop taking my medication. I don't know why but I do it but I do. I mean my boyfriend tells me to take my meds but I don't and I know in my mind I need them I just don't take them. But without my meds my bipolar disorder will get worse and my boyfriend as loving and caring as he is has had some bad experiences with bipolar his ex girlfriend never took her medicine and she went crazy on him. He said he couldn't handle that again so I come to you my HU friends how do I get over this mental block and take my medicine before my happiness falls apart

Is it possible to keep your meds in your line of sight by an everyday item that you would use? (and preferably away from your daughter)

Like.. Keep your meds next to your purse, or car keys?

.

If that's not a safe option, then how about setting your phone to set a daily alarm to go off when it's about time to take your meds?

Hi my friend...is it a matter of forgetting or feeling like you don't need the medswhen your bf is around. After all, you feel happy with him and that happiness is

a euphoria that raises your Seratonin levels making you feel content. The issue is

unstableness can develop with your on and off of your medications.

By taking your prescribed medication each and every day, it offers you a guarantee

that you will have no bipolar breakthrough issues. With that, keeping your relationship

more on an even keel.

It now falls back to your choice in both taking care of your mental health as well as the

relationship. Choose wisely, it's important for your sake. :) xx

Thanks for the reply I know my mental health is way more important than any relationship and I have spent the past year working on both my mental health and my meds and I finally got to a point where my doctor says it would be okay to have a boyfriend but now that I have one I feel I don't need the meds so I don't take them even though he reminds me everyday when he wakes up to take them because he doesn't want me to have a meltdown

Sometimes we get a false feeling regarding our medications, meaning a "high" that we may seem to be getting w/o them.

I'm sure if you were feeling ill, you would remember to take them.

With all meds, it's the fluctuation in our brain which can bring us down

to an all time low. Please stay safe, please be careful. Your mental health

is worth it's weight in gold however no one but you can make you take them :) xx

I have to question how important this relationship is to you. If you really want it to work, you’ll take your meds. You’re setting yourself up for a relapse and heartache if you don’t.

One of the insane thoughts we have is that we don’t need meds when we feel good. But the reason we feel good is because we’re taking our meds. It’s a lie we tell ourselves. Don’t believe it.
