So this morning I finally got hold of a DR tried everyday last week. I told him about how I am feeling and he was trying to say my issue is due to returning to work. Even though Ive felt unwell before then. I asked him about treatment and he's telling me to refer myself to counselling. I tell him I need some help in the form of medication. He is very reluctant to help, telling me that they only work 25% of the time etc. I then say look I need to at least try them. He then prescribes me 25mg of Sertraline. I am thinking Okay maybe we are getting somewhere. Then when I open the prescription it is for only one lot. Its not on repeat. So I ring back the chemist to ask why and they say to contact the DR. So Im no further forward because I don't want to start taking them only for me to not be able to get another box and I then run out and start having withdrawals. Just such a frustrating situation.

Got medication but theres a catch
First lot always a trial ,incase you get bad side effects…..if they help at all there will be no issue giving you more
Hello Silly Sausage, so there shouldn't be an issue with getting it after its intial trial. I am new to all this and don't know the procedure. The way he was talking this morning, he did not want me to go on them at all and I had to fight for them really. I am on two other medications, one for hypothyroidism which is Levothyroxine and Propranolol for anxiety.
Hi
It wouldn't do you any good to just get one prescription for Zoloft. It takes awhile to work
Does the Dr want a follow up visit? There could be a chance of changing dosage perhaps.

Hello dolphin, yes he wasn't helpful at all. No talk about a follow up visit. He referred me to some vitamind health thing. Counselling I guess. He suggested this would help me. He did let me have one box of sertraline. However not touching them until I know for certain. I will have a appointment to discuss continuing on them. My surgery is an absolute joke.
Hi Jelley93
Reading you past posts says you have hashimotos hypothyroidism which is an endocrine condition
Sertraline contains flouride which is an endocrine disrupter so it will not help your thyroid health ?
Hi lizzo yes I have a underactive thyroid. I didn't know about that regarding the sertraline. I hope I could take it though as I am finding it tough at present.
yes I understand and hypothyroidism makes everything worse bc many of the symptoms of hypothyroidism can be mistaken for mental illness - depression etc however you have autoimmune hypothyroidism - hashimotos right ? Izabella Wentz writes blogs and books about hashimotos she has even said she is cured from it so it might be worth your while reading some of her stuff
You are totally going to hate me but your doctor is a keeper! There have been many studies that support what he told you. Medicine only goes so far on its own. Talk therapy is like a booster for meds. In simple terms therapy teaches you resilience while meds stabilize the ups and downs so you can learn it.
Frankly I would be quite delighted to find a doctor who doesn't want to use medication as a first port of call. They can make you very tired and have debilitating side effects. It would be normal practice not to give a repeat prescription. He would need to see how you are getting on with them first.
