I was prescribed the generic lexapro 5mg for general anxiety. Is there anything I should do before taking the medicine such as having pepto on hand, certain foods or pain relievers? Also, should I not do anything to interactive for - like a week such as work?

Hi- starting on a low dose is a good choice as it allows your provider to titrate up until at the most effective dose. Starting right away on a high dose is usually what causes so many side effects (nausea, insomnia, fatigue, etc) for folks. That being said for many 5mg is enough and very effective. Be patient as your body adapts to the changing availability of serotonin (which is actually produced in the gut! Explains so many of the GI type symptoms some experience). Many say 4-6 weeks at least. It took me longer- 12 weeks was my sweet spot. I would suggest therapy in addition to medication to learn coping techniques, etc. I did take pepto bismol a few times to settle my tummy, and also had ginger tea and chews on hand. Mini snacks (protein shakes) throughout the day instead of large meals if you have loss of appetite. Stay hydrated! Daily walks and exercise to get rid of excess energy. For sleep I took Melatonin a few times a week (not every night!). And I also had Ashwaghanda. Just maintain open communication with your provider if you experience any unbeatable side effects. They usually go away with time, but until they do, there is usually something available to ride you over. Good luck. Lex has been great for my anxiety/panic/depression- I’m on 20mg after a year of starting.
