Nausea, is the #1 thing that you will have with Lexapro. Fortunately, that will go away.
^ If you eat the right foods with that, it will get better. (more on that in a sec)
Diarrhea? That could be a few things. (Like say IBS - Irritable bowel syndrome, or "stress" with life in general)
^ I would take over the counter diarrhea pills if that doesn't go away for a few days, and then keep an eye on that. (talk to your doc if needed)
.
As for the nausea, I'm gonna give you a tip.
Find a soft baked breakfast bar. Eat the breakfast bar, and then take the Lexapro afterwards, with a glass of water, and the nausea won't be as bad. (especially after your body gets more used to the Lexapro)
Soft baked breakfast bar example for reference -> (They won't let me post the link, but Google "Kelloggs breakfast bar" or "Nutri-grain" bar)
Kelloggs breakfast bars work wonders for me, but using a similiar generic baked breakfast bar would work well too.
Hi Shelly... as an optimist and user of Lexapro, I'd like to share my own experience.Lexapro has allowed me to no longer need benzos. It has provided me with a well balance
feeling w/o any sleepiness.
My question to you since you are only taking 1/2 the prescribed dose in the last month...
was this by your choice or your doctors?? 5 mg is nothing and can possibly perpetuate
the starting dosage for you.
Let your doctor know please...I'm sure he would want you to graduate to 10mg at least.
Please let us know what your doctor says. Although, we don't always react the same to
medications, we must at least give them a chance. The prescribed dose for 4-6 weeks can
have a beneficial positive effect on your mental health. Good Luck xx
honestly i really wasnt sure about taking it i thought it would be a crutch and probably just add to my problems if i ever needed to taper off it my doctor prescribed 10mg but i was so afraid of it making my anxiety worse i decided to just take half the dose at first but since ive had these issues ive stayed at 5mg
Shelly, I may not be a doctor but have had some experience with medicationsto know that too little of a drug can cause side effects. The right medication,
the right dose and the right time of the day all can play a part in the efficacy
of the drug.
Please contact your doctor and let him know what you've been taking.
I'd hate to see you give up on a med before you even gave it a full chance to work.
We can only go by our own experiences which are done through our doctor's orders.
Let me know what your doctor advises you to do. xx
I love your recommendation, best advice. You need to report your side effects and work in your anxiety to taking medication.
You have been dealing with anxiety with your own devices and not getting too far to get rid of it.
If you decided to partner with a psychiatrist to get their professional knowledge to help you use them all the way… what’s the worst that can happen? You can stop taking meds just work with your doctor
I have never had anxiety issues until I was so sick with covid last year and had go to on Ativan and lexapro. After a year she finally switched me to Prozac along with the Ativan cuz I was having all the issues you’re having while on lexapro and anxiety was not controlled. I’ve been so far feeling better but not on long enough to tell for sure.
Was on Lexapro for a while. Eventually got to the point where I just could not tolerate it. I felt like the stuff was keeping me in high anxiety all the time, talking really fast, eyelids couldn't open far enough.
Have you ever had a thorough thyroid analysis to determine if that has anything to do with it? Lots of docs forget about the connection of thyroid to anxiety & depression.
Hi Shelly,I too am on lexapro, 20 mg,for 3yrs now and it is a Godsend. I was just like you in the beginning. I was also prescribed a small amount of konopin for break through anxiety. I tried not to take full dose of klonpin, as it is addicting and hard to come off of. I took such a small dose of klonpin that I had no problem stopping that med. So maybe something more natural can be prescribed. I worked with a psychiatrist and social worker. Lexapro took a few months to start to work but in time it definitely did. I did have some side effects like diarrhea and nausea but they subsided after a few months. Your brain must take time to adjust. Please stay in contact with your doctor it's very important. Hope that I was able to help you. God bless and stay in touch.Pam
