Stressed about school!

Is anyone else a student? I would love to have someone to relate to. I'm currently a full-time junior in college. We are in the second semester, and I notice my anxiety and stress levels increasing. I'm having a hard time keeping up with assignments and I'm thinking about quizzes before I go to sleep! On top of that, I also work full-time and play a very important role that often requires overtime. We were in class yesterday and everyone was discussing an assignment that was due Monday. I had no idea what assignment they were talking about. My heart instantly dropped, and I started thinking about how I could fail the class. It got so bad that I wasn't even focused in my second class, the missed assignment was all I could think about.

Any tips for managing stress and anxiety in deadline situations?

I am coming into my second year of college and I feel your pain! I struggle managing perfectionism on top of the anxiety but through this hurricane of stress I got a few tips. Write EVERYTHING down so you won’t forget. Or in the case of your anxious thoughts write those down too. Tear them up, throw them in the bin, do whatever makes you comfortable, but get them out of your head. This helps me manage and to keep track of all my work. It also helps to cross things off as you go. Another tip, add color and glitter and stickers to your lists if it makes you happy you’ll use it more (trust me).

Take breaks, do things you enjoy. I know it’s hard to find the time, but this is important too. You are the best you when you’re rested.

That’s a very demanding workload. Good for you going to school full time and having a full time job. Getting some exercise is a great way to lower stress and improve focus, even if it’s 5 min of light running. Also social connections can help reduce stress and improve well being. I need to work on this too. I always feel much better and in a more positive mood after chatting with my peers especially in person
