Happy Valentines Day, HU friends!! I am so thankful for y'all on here because I really do enjoy interacting with others posts.
I am struggling with "Globus Sensation". I looked it up and it's the feeling of having a huge ball or knot in the back of your throat through an anxiety attack. It's really rough on me and wanted to know if anyone else has had this before and if so what do they do to help relieve it?
Also, I've been on Youtube researching anxiety because surprisingly it makes me feel better when I'm more educated (weird, I know). Has anyone done any CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy)? What were there thoughts with that and did it improve their anxiety? Thank you in advance for all the support. It's great to know so many great people here <3 I hope everyone has a great Valentines Day!!

Hello! I really appreciate that you commented all of these helpful tips. It's definitely an interesting topic and i'm ready to try these tips you are giving to help give me some relief in this issue so I can make it more controllable. I do notice that sipping cold water normally helps, plus if i'm not able to eat it's better to have water in my system rather than nothing. I hope it gets better as time goes on for you!!! I appreciate you and hope you had a great Valentines Day!! π
I feel you. I used to get that all the time. It is super annoying. I have not personally done CBT but my son has for other issues and it has helped. I'm sorry you are going through this. I think it will get better with some work. I am on medication for anxiety and honestly, it is my only saving grace sometimes. I wish you the best.
Yes my medication for anxiety has definitely helped me but i'm starting to get to the point where I would like to work on it on my own as well as use the medication to get maybe a better result. I am hoping that with the medication and some CBT it will be able to be more controllable. Thank you for responding! I wish the best for you too, and pray that it doesn't happen to youπ
Globus dies of neglect. The only person who keeps it alive is you.
I had this (full name Globus Hystericus) back in the 1990s. The local hospital did a barium meal investigation but found nothing which confirmed my suspicion that it was the result of health anxiety.
Reassured that there was nothing life threatening wrong with my throat I ceased to give it the attention it didn't deserve. A few weeks later I remembered by globus and thought "Hey, where did that lump in the throat go?"
My suggestion would be: get your doctor to make 110% sure it isn't a physical thing. Then accept it for the time being. Don't hide from it or try to cast it out of your mind. Accept it as no threat or danger to your well being and when you feel it don't add second fear to the flash of first fear. Accept it as nothing more than a temporary nuisance.
Don't keep testing to see if it's still there, that's not Accepting. Don't ask how long before it yields, that's not accepting either.
Do these things and surely the days of your globus are numbered.
Oh wow! So you've done testing too? Back in December I got an endoscopy and x-ray's of my throat to confirm there was nothing wrong other than GERD. He said it's anxiety, and I didn't want to hear that because being honest I was hoping it wasn't me doing it to myself. You are exactly right though! The more attention I bring to it than the worse it gets. I'm very good at "babying" it when it comes which makes it drag along. Thank you for your great tips! It made me feel better hearing a stranger say the things I was thinking. I am glad to hear yours has gone away since then and I pray with your advice mine will go away as well! Thank you π
Oh i'm happy to hear that I actually did something for someone! Thank you for taking the time out to comment on my post. I only know what it is due to so much research. I tend to feel more at ease when i'm researching it while it's going on. I'm sorry you have had it too and hopefully it can go away for you as well π
My 'advice' is of course based on the teachings of Claire Weekes whose recent biography was titled 'The woman who cracked the anxiety code'. And so she did, most of the self-help books written today are based on her method which she first revealed to the world 60 years ago in her first book 'Hope and help for your nerves' or, if you are lucky enough to be Britishπ€, the same book is titled "Self help for your nerves'.
It's a short book and it uses everyday language: people say that whilst reading it they feel that she knew them. The book brings understanding, reassurance - and recovery. Claire claimed that her method can cure everybody who adopts it no matter how long or how deeply they have suffered.
Her method is based on doing the opposite to everything you may be doing now. Its main characteristic is to Accept for the time being all the symptoms of anxiety that come our way. Accept them to the point that you no longer fear them for fear is the thing on which over sensitised nervous systems thrive.
David Barlow, Emeritus Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at Boston University claims that over the years her method has helped tens of millions of people to recover worldwide.
Her method can be summed up in six words: Face. Accept. Float. Let time pass.
Her books continue to be available new or used on Amazon and Ebay for a few pounds or dollars.
If you already knew all about Claire Weekes I apologise for takng up your time.
That was so interesting. Thank you for that info! Iβm going to look into getting her books to read. Thank you for taking the time out to tell me this! π
