Recommendation?

Lexapro or Buspar? Part of my anxiety is medicine and side effects so it’s important to me to make the right choice. My anxiety has always been manageable but recently I’ve gotten myself into a never ending spiral of anxiety and panic for about a week now and the doctor suggests lexapro but I’ve read Buspar has less side affects and easier to stop. She said it’s my choice but is an advocate of the lexapro.

Hi and welcome! You should direct all medical questions to your doctor. Everyone is so different, with different medical histories and experiences, that it wouldn't be right (or fair to you) for anyone other than your prescribing doctor to determine this. I think it's a bit weird that she's giving you the choice. All of my doctors have put me on medications they think would best help me. They would always ask me before putting me on what they recommend, but I've never been given a choice. This is my two cents, anyway.

Thank you and I completely understand your point. Just feeling very scared and lost and confused right now but I have a call tomorrow with the doctor to review my concerns.

Aww, I'm sorry to hear that! I was wondering if my response was maybe too abrupt. Part of what I was thinking was how everyone has their own opinions, how you might get different answers on here, and that that would get you even more stressed out. (I call it "the curse of anticipating what others might think"🙂)

I'm on Lexapro myself. It works well for me.

Thank you! I appreciate you sharing. Incredibly frustrating that we just don’t know what’s right for us without trial and error which sends me into even more panic! I have a call tomorrow with her and will most likely take her recommendation. I need to start somewhere and get some relief.

When I was young and experimenting with marajuana (which I could never actually enjoy), I would stay up and wired for hours and lose my appetite completely. Backwards! I believe you have to try these things to find what works for you, of course with a doctors supervision. My experience with Busbar has been good. I only take it when I absolutely need it, and I’m extremely vigilant about it’s use. I prefer to be connected to my anxiety so I can treat it with logic as well as meds.

None of us are qualified doctors, but there are many meds for what ails us, and its a case of try until you find a suitable one.

Your doctor is the best person to advise you, or the Pharmacist at your drug store.

Cheers, Midori

Have been using lexapro for depression for about 2 and 1/2 months. Started at 5mg now at 1.5mg. For me it has been very helpful. At first, I thought it was causing side effects of increased moodiness but reported it to my doctor right away. They encouraged me to continue, which I did, and side effects went away. I use the generic formula and it has been a plus to me. Just stay in close touch with your doctor about any side effects. That is what they are there. Best of luck.
