Are there any movies or series that have helped you go through extremely difficult times in your life or have had some sort of therapeutic effect on you/help you change your perspective on your situation? I'd love to hear from that ☀️

Movies recommendation
Cake. helped me also A Beautiful Mind
Movies in general are my comfort thing. Watching series are good to keep you looking forward to something in the day or for tomorrow. But just like music I believe watching movies with themes of happiness and uplifting stories can help improve your mood and make you happier as a result. It's nice to have something to relate to but over time if you are relating to a character who is in a bad state then it won't help you get any better. This was the case for me with the movie Blade Runner 2049 which is my favourite movie but the character is lonely and shows rarely any emotion which I could relate to while I was in university and as much as I liked the film it didn't help really.
A few movies I'd recommend for a laugh or inspirational story are: 'Murder Mystery' (comedy with Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler) / 'Pursuit of HappYness' (movie about a father struggling through life but efforts lead to a greater position - Will Smith) / 'Lion King' (Cant go wrong with Disney classic and childhood favourite) / 'Johnny English' (Comedy with Rowan Atkinson a.k.a Mr Bean) / 'The Blind Side' - (A true story about a homeless man adopted by a family to help him pursue a career - with Sandra Bullock)
I love watching series. I get into the story and look forward to watching it again the next day. I don't have any therapeutic ones to recommend. I just finished 7 seasons of The Shield. It was dark and violent, not sure I recommend it for you, but it did help pass the time. I watched 1883 A Yellowstone Origin Story. That was good but probably not therapeutic. I do recommend Titans if you are into superheros at all. It is 3 seasons. Again it is dark, but really helps to pass the time. Just getting lost in a story helps me. I hope you find a good one. I will be interested to hear other people's opinions. Thanks for the great question.
I enjoy feel good movies for distraction, but they’re fiction. What really lifts me up are movies based on true stories and documentaries of people who overcome their adversities in spite of . You’ll have to forgive me, though, my memory isn’t what it used to be so I don’t have a list, but there’s so many I’ve watched that got me out of my seat. Categories are endless. I guess googling “ true story movies and documentaries of people who overcame life problems” might help. ( something like that) I just can’t remember titles right now. 😊
Disney movies are my feel good! Reminds me of a time when I was a carefree kid, plus who doesn’t love a good Disney movie ! 😁
Try Trading Places; Animal House totally funny movies. Will make you forget the challenges U R going thru.
"It's kind of a funny story" is a very sweet movie with a youngster struggling in high school. It ends up being a feel good movie and very relatable to what most of us need. I think it is on Amazon prime right now.
I'm watching It's Kind Of A Funny Story right now based on your post...😙
P.s. Just finished the movie, sweet story but it also reminded me of how quickly someone can be put in a psych ward. Have to be super careful about what you tell the crisis lines.
That's tough to answer, theres so many movies that are meaningful to me and I love but they aren't uplifting per se so it would be weird to recommend them in this context even though they've helped me but i'm not that big on "happy" movies. It's really whatever you find meaningful or inspiring
The secret by Ronda byron and you can heal your life.
Have you watched Patch Adams? It is a bit funny too. Based in a true story. Robin Williams protagonist of a person who were struggling with depression in a mental hospital, then he decided to become a doctor.
Inside Out: it is a animated movie about a girl living a difficult change. Her mind is working with a lot of emotions and every emotion belongs to a little person inside her head. All of them must work in harmony but it is not easy.
Yes Man: with Jim Carrey. It is a man stuck in his depression and negativity in life. Then he attended a self-help seminar and his life turned to a positive and funny way.
UP: It is animated movie about an old and grumpy man who knows a kid that just want to help and wants to gain the attention of his dad. They both helped each other to leave a dangerous place.
Falling inn Love: a lady bought a place in New Zealand with the idea of overcome her depression due a breakup. She knows a lot of different people who show her the meaning of care, love, friendship and family.
Try some of them. They are good movies and all of them will make you laugh sometimes.
The Chosen series. It was such a refreshing Christian series. It shows the life of Jesus from the perspective of the disciples. Seeing Jesus as a man, who brushed his teeth and wears pajamas gave me a whole new perspective and understanding. I’ve always believed Jesus to be God but I’ve struggled to see him as man who dealt with real things that we deal with. And I’ve struggled to see the disciples as people who had issues and problems they struggled with. This series wasn’t corny like a lot of them. I can’t recommend it more.
I like to watch series that help me escape. During the pandemic we watched "Schitt's Creek", a wonderful comedy. We also watched "Derry Girls", another (Irish) comedy. "Ted Lasso" is another great series, as well as the more recently released "Shrinking". Another older series is "Last Tango in Halifax", which is kind of like a modern soap opera. My husband even enjoyed this series. "Last Tango in Halifax" is produced and written by Sally Wainwright, a British producer, and it stars Sarah Lancashire, a British actress. Also written by Wainwright and starring Lancashire is a series called "Happy Valley" which is very suspenseful. The first two series were written before the pandemic, and the last season was released recently. Another one of my go- to series is "Desperate Housewives", which is pretty old. I didn't start watching this until "lockdown". This series appeals to mostly women, and I'm not sure if you are male or female. I tend to watch things that are not about mental health because they help me escape from my thoughts about mental health. Unfortunately, these series are all on different streaming services and it can be expensive to subscribe to all of them. My kids sign up for the services and terminate the service when they are done watching a series, which is a lot of work but helps keep the cost down. I hope this helps.
"New Girl" and "Happy Endings" and "Arrested Development" All make me laugh.
