How to deal with the holiday season

Hi everybody, who have been so considerate to support me. How do you all feel about the holidays. For me, even when I’ve been OK and not in a depressive episode, I’ve hated them. They’re so phony, a prime example of consumerism and materialism. When people ask what I’m doing for the holidays I tell them I’d like to go to bed the day before Thanksgiving and not get out of bed until Jan 2

For me, I'm not a fan of Thanksgiving. I like having a break from school, but I can be thankful and eat turkey any day of the year. The only reason I celebrate it these days is because my household celebrates it.

Christmas has always been my favorite holiday, but the emphasis placed on buying presents is terrible. Christmas should be about spending time with the people you love and showing how much you appreciate them. I would really love it if people would spend the season (the whole year, actually) lifting other people up.

Lately, the new year hasn't been great. I thought 2020 would be great, but the pandemic started. I thought things would get better in 2021, but nope. However, I do like setting goals (instead of New Year's Resolutions).

I have one rule regarding New Year's Resolutions,--- I don't make 'em! So I can't break 'em!

Cheers. Midori

Got ya. I signed up for an online art class yhe Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. It should give me time away from loneliness, though its hard. It is an utterly consumer driven holiday, season but I wish to still be a part of it. Head in the sand sounds about right. My bottom would at least get some rays.

That's one of the benefits of being old. You don't have to traipse around the shops listening to canned Christmas music and ancient Christmas hits, you can't see the tat waiting for the unwary, and you can shop online for the necessities and leave the rest!

I'm tired of it, 2 months of each year so people will buy more stuff. But I try to embrace

the parts of the holidays that I like. Like eating with a friend, buying a gift , getting a gift, maybe church Christmas Eve., going by to see my 96yr old Aunt. I used to think it was a big deal, I dont expect too much anymore.
