I know we're all different, but how long did those of you in treatment for trauma see the first signs of improvement? I've spent way too much money staying with treatment that didn't work. How do I know if the treatment isn't working, what time frame should I give if there's no movement? I just want a sign that I'm on the right track.

Definitely a question for your provider. As ypu said all of us are so different. Having a candid conversation with your therapist about expectations IMO will be your bet.
Of course. I just wonder what are people's experiences. I feel it shouldn't take half a year or longer to see beginning results for example.
Depends on if it's surgery or other trauma. I.know with my surgery they said 3 months and fully healed. I'm on 5 months and still pain and swelling. I call the surgeons assistant and they said there should be no swelling now. I must be one of the lucky ones because I'm still swelled and in pain yet.😕
I think 20 sessions gives you a clear picture. I did 20ish sessions with my first therapist, 20 sessions of neurofeedback, 20 sessions of PT/chiropractor.
I’m five sessions in with a new therapist.
I’m dedicated to my yoga/mindfulness classes. I’m not sure how many I’ve done so far but this will be a lifelong practice.
What type of trauma work are you doing?
Its called Neuroaffective relational model. Its targeted talk with somatic experiencing. I put a 4 month mark initially and I have a full month left. Thanks for your feedback. I will consider 20 week mark. I know its not knowable.
How was neurofeedback? Did you use a small handheld device? Very curious.
That sounds like a promising approach if done correctly!
Neurofeedback was with a therapist. She pasted electrodes to my scalp. Then I watched Netflix for about 30 minutes. She could see some of my brain activity on her computer screen. The program rewards your brain with good picture quality for effective patterns. The picture quality diminishes with less effective patterns.
I didn’t notice a night and day difference but I did notice some positive effects. For example, it helped me to be more decisive about what I want.
Have you considered developing a wellness plan for yourself for the six dimensions of wellness? Each one could be just an hour of your week to start out with.
Here’s mine:
Physical: yoga
Emotional: mindful meditation
Spiritual: group singing at church
Occupational: caring for my pre-K aged daughter
Intellectual: counseling classes
Social: weekly get together with friends at their house
The trauma therapist I worked with using emdr who I really liked, helped me set a ending goal of a year working with him. It turned out to be about right and was motivating for me to have an end goal. I still go back for an occasional tuneup but really appreciated his having my best interest in mind as a client.
Thats great.
