I'm a different person at work

I don't know if anyone can relate but while I'm at work I'm motivated and focused. I talk and joke with everyone and I do well. Then the moment I get home I'm back to depressed me. Unmotivated, lonely, tired, avoiding people and activities. It doesn't feel like I'm being fake at work but I question myself. I don't know how I can just switch back and forth every day.

Does anyone experience this? What is it? Does anything help?

I definitely can relate to that. At times, I’m “on” at work and “off” at home. 😕

That's exactly how it feels. Like I have used up every drop of energy and being social I have and when I get home I'm just done. I guess it's like survival. I cant be depressed at work.

Yes I found the same at work. The effort to stay focussed and to work demanded most of my energy and I would wilt when I got home. It's very hard for us depressed people isn't it?

However I love my darts so would make a big effort to go to that and I would end up feeling energised and was always glad I made the effort. Work life balance is very important.

I know that I deal with clients at work and have to be civil. But where I work I like who I work with and we can joke around with each other. Everyday isn't like that, there are some days it can be an off day and my moods can swing in but I don't respond as much when I have those days. Im just quieter and the guys know it and don't push my buttons. At home I turn into a whole new superhero villian. Weird.

Me. Absolutely. I'm not sad at work but out of my mind when alone. I'm an extrovert and love working with kids.

I find physically I'm more motivated at work, more energetic. Get home and I want to eat relax and retreat.

I would say lots of people are like that, you are not unusual.

Hi Always2ndBest,

yes i know what you mean but remember that home can be your santuary to recharge and replenish. unless you like to be on all the time, it's good to have down time too. Sometimes work can be so draining and being charged up all the time is not necessarily a good thing. you're not fake, you are recharging. :)

Btw, just as a suggestion but your user name is a kind of self limiting behaviors. i didn't understand before but what we tell ourselves is equally important/damaging what others tell us. Start with yourself and appreciate you first. Rename your user name to AlwaystheBest so you start to feel and act as such.

Good luck with your journey and we're here to help when we can.
