Does anybody else sometimes count when they walk? ... And if so, why do you think we do it?
Just a question... : Does anybody else... - Anxiety and Depre...
Just a question...
I do this all the time not just when I'm walking but I don't know why
Definitely. I count lots of things that I doubt other people do.
For example, I put on ten swipes of deodorant. When washing my hair, I scrub each “region” of my scalp for two sets of ten. (There are five scalp regions.) I scrub my face while counting to one hundred.
I’ve got a touch of the OCD. 😜
I do it with everything! For some reason I find it calming. It gives me a sense of control I guess 🤷🏻♀️ I’ll randomly start counting my fingers or something with a pattern if I’m starting to feel tense. I guess it’s the Repetitive action that calms me? All I know is that when I do it, I feel a little more secure.
I’ve got a little ocd too lol. I have to press the hang up button on the phone 3 times; count the stairs as I go up or down; tap the light switch 3 times making sure it’s off or on; and a few other things 🤷🏻♀️ 😆 lol
I often count steps when walking. I get somewhat bored walking, so do that instead.
I count people. Not when I am walking but if sitting down outside. I count them in groups of 4, 5 is ok but never 6. I panic when there are only 6. I don't have ocd but it's just habit.
It can be a symptom of OCD, or it can be that you just like counting things.
