I have been on Venlafaxine for 18yrsIt was great for my depression, no bad side effects for me. This past year it has stopped working, but all in all a good antidepressant

Hi Kzzzy, same for me, worked wonders for almost 10 years which I was thankful for; then it stopped. I sometimes feel as our body changes this can happen. I am happy it worked for as long as it did for both my anxiety and depression.

I was on Effexor for a short while. It gave me migraines. But I’m not everyone. It’s just me. Antidepressants kept me stabilized for decades. Without them I couldn’t benefit from any kind of therapy or function normally. But again, that’s just me. There was a lot of trial and error, but I haven’t been on any for a very long time and doing ok without them.

I tried it for a while, it didn't help. I hope your body chemistry decides it'll work well for you

Hello onthewaterfront,I was also on this drug for many years and it stopped working, so my doctor put me on Lamictal and that has been working great and been on it for some time.

Hi, I've been on venlafaxine ER 150 and 75 since about 2012. It has been really helpful for me and I've done very well with it. I take it with Lamotrigine. It's been a while since I had my medications tweeked and I think that stands for how well it has been working. Hope that helps.

It is absolutely awful if you miss a dose or try to taper off it. I personally don't recommend for those reasons.

Agree

i am trying to wean off it still. it worked immediately but all my docs agreed it is not a good drug to be on. getting off is awful. im now on 18 months of trying to get off. my advice. try something else first!

My husband has started on this 3 weeks ago and the signs are positive. He has been on various other antidepressants in the past with no real success. This is the first one that he says he feels he can engage in therapy and is feeling better.

Side effects for him are night sweats which are being controlled with another drug. He also gets headaches/migraines but we think this is due to another med he is coming off.

I believe you need to be supported by your GP or mental health team and you should be having supported therapy with any mental health medication you are prescribed .
