What are your coping skills for your depression?

I've had a hard time coping with my depression, but here is a list of my best coping skills:

1. Listening to music (Taylor Swift is my favorite)

2. Foot baths (I love Epsom salts!)

3. Keeping a gratitude journal (I also write my accomplishments for the day)

4. Taking a shower

5. Song-writing

6. Yoga/stretching/meditating

7. Playing the video game Tomb Raider

8. Enjoying a hot cup of tea or coffee/curled up in a fuzzy blanket!

9. Going for a walk or hike - just going outside helps.

10. Daydreaming if all else fails!

- I hope this list helps! Sometimes just letting myself cry and knowing these negative emotions will pass is something that brings me comfort. ((hugs))

Nature is my best remedy. I will take a nature walk around my neighborhood (inner City) and focus only on nature ignoring people, cars, and buildings. A hike in the local hills or mountains is the best for me though. I also have around 80 plants on my apartment balcony. Nature gives me a reboot.

I know the feeling.. I don't have depression I don't think.. I have anxiety with panic attacks.. And wow it's mentally exhausting.. I hate suffering .. And that's what I feel I'm doing whenever I have a bad anxiety day!!

I know how you feel. I make lists of coping skills, and try to jump from one to another to feel better. It's exhausting. Anxiety & depression suck, but we are all so strong to be fighting. Sending you some good thoughts. ❤️

Lately my coping skills have been just trying to make it through the day until I can wake up the next day. .the next day if I can muster up the mind power and energy I will do yoga and meditate for 15 minutes and go outside for a bike ride but that's on a good day

I have trouble meditating because my thoughts race so fast. Do you have any tips? My doc says just to focus on my breathing. My anxiety is so severe that it makes it hard. I hope today was a good day for you. 🙂

Music and working out; prayer, too, but often the anxiety is distracting.

Music and prayer help me, too! I need to exercise more regularly. I went on a long walk today and felt so much better afterwards. 🙂

Hi I have tons of thoughts while mediating too but focusing on inhalation for maybe 5 seconds then holding breath for 5 seconds then focusing on exhalation for 6 seconds then hold breath for 6 seconds before I start all over. .so it helps to focus on the count of breath rather than all the thoughts the mind wants to focus on. .I had a yoga teacher who said when the thoughts come in while mediating see the thoughts flying away then refocus on your breath. .

Thank you so much!!! I'm going to have to try that.

That's cool you've had a yoga teacher! I love yoga. I just watch yoga with Adriene videos from Youtube and follow along. 🙂
