Books, books and books!

i like reading a lot since i was a kid (fiction and non fiction but mostly fiction) but i stopped when i was in second grade of high school. and in January this year i start reading again!! until now i've read 5 books and four of them are Murakami's books.

my plan for this year is to read as many books as i can!! and also reading helps me a lot with my anxiety in daily basis. i mean, i can forget those horrible feelings while im reading book because it takes me to a journey far far awaaay.

does anyone out here like reading? i just wanna have a friend to talk about books!

and by the way, have a nice day everyone!

I used to read quite a bit when I was younger. I fell out of the habit of reading novels for ages, although I've always read quite a bit in the times I have had a computer. I started purchasing audiobooks through Audible about two years ago, I found that I really enjoyed being read to and in a way, I felt like it was 'cheating' compared to reading a physical book but I really enjoy most of the books I've bought. I've always had a lot of trouble falling asleep so I started to listen to white noise videos on YouTube. I started listening to audiobooks when I went to bed (with a handy sleep timer on, since I usually pass out while listening) and now it's become a healthy routine.

I'm starting to get back in the habit of reading physical books as well although a lot of those are more boring, medical books.

I just purchased a book named Dare: The New Way to End Anxiety and Stop Panic Attacks, it was recommended to me by someone who also suffers from panic attacks and thought it was worth mentioning.

Most of the audiobooks I listen to are fantasy, horror, or science fiction. I've always had a love for horror short stories.

What have you been reading recently?

Yes, have a great day too!

I tried listening to some audiobooks too but i didn't really enjoy it as much as i read physical book because i always ended up sleeping on them lol

Oh yes now that you've mentioned book about anxiety and panic attacks, i really want to read that kind of book because i wanna know more about it (and also because i have anxiety and panic attacks). I will read what you read! Or maybe i will read what you listen

I've been reading a lot of Murakami's books, he's a japanese author, and his books genre are mostly fiction, surrealism, magical realism, postmodernism, bildungsroman, picaresque, realism. They are weird and it requires a lot of thinking but i really like them.

And now, i'm planning to read Dune. Not sure if i'm gonna like it because it's a sci-fi but i'm gonna try and read it.

Part of my reasoning in listening to these books is to help my mind relax so I can sleep... so it works for me 😅

There's something enjoyable about having a physical book in your hands though. I feel like when I read, I tend to retain a book as opposed to listening to an audiobook, I tend to retain the information a bit better.

I haven't heard of Murakami, I'll have to check him out. I really enjoy fiction as an escape and tend to read things about medicine that might give me insight into recovery or the workings of the mind and body.

I think my favorite part of Dune Mentats, it was funny to see them parodied in a game (Fallout: New Vegas) as a kind of drug. That book was amazing, it's still so popular after all these years.

I do indeed, but began to read less after I had. Would still always go through the two to three newspapers we get in the week.

To my shame now l spend too much wasteful time on my phone, so reading gets very sidelined

I think it's great that you love reading. To me it shows that you have good concentration too. I love the fact that my youngest daughter - 17 still reads loads.

The other two though, who used to read loads too - daughter 23, son 21 have dwindled like me, unfortunately they too spend too much time on phone.

Well done you!

I love to read. I lost focus for quite some time. I'mback at it now and I'm so glad.

I also love the " escape". I've been reading since I was very young.

I don't have any particular author or genre I stick to. I like to read anything.

Enjoy your books
