Can a blood pressure cuff pop a vein in my arm?
Question: Can a blood pressure cuff pop... - Anxiety and Depre...
Question
No it can't. You don't need to be taking your blood pressure at home unless your doctor has told you to do so. I very much doubt that you have been told this. Frequent BP reading only serves to increase your health anxiety.
Blood pressure cuffs can be very tight so I would be careful its like a bear hug but you’ll be ok don't do it often though its bad for you
I agree with Hb2003, don't take your blood pressure too often. Yes, the cuff can get very tight, but no, it will not harm you.
The doctor will tell you no but I have a huge vein on my upper arm from an incorrectly placed cuff that was automatic & the nurse left the room. I felt like my arm was going to explode. When she took the cuff off there was this huge popped vein thing. It doesn't hurt but it looks nasty & frankly I'm sick of the eternal question "Oh my God! What happened to your arm?" I've given up on the truth & have begun a game of what crazy thing can I say that they will believe? Its actually getting interesting. But yes a bp cuff can pop a vein. If its used correctly no. But people make mistakes. Especially overworked ER nurses.
