'It is both a blessing and a curse to feel everything so deeply."

Anxiety and depression both "clinical" diagnoses. Both generated in a large part by chemical imbalances in our brains... or least that's what the "experts" say.

Could it be perhaps, that both are a result of being more in tune more in touch with our world and perceptions?

Or are both clinical traits and "awareness" (feelings)correct?

Just throwing this out here to generate some discussion..

Hi Lazaruslong,

You've been spying inside my mind again!

I looked up your quote. The search gave me "David Jones". He's all new to me. Do you read his poetry? If so, any recommendations? Keeping in mind, as a "highly sensitive person" -- that's what they call it -- I can't read anything that'll knock my stuffing out?

Any time.. 😊

You know me Mr Tao, I don’t function on either term blessing or curse 🙅‍♀️🤣😂😅. Acceptance and gratitude will do. I’m compassionate with people who experience this chaos from a full spectrum of anxiety to clinical depression. I have hormones imbalance and laughter is my best medicine. 😂Throughout our lifetime, we shift back n forth within that range. Being alert and aware of our own mind and body will help us tremendously to cope with this condition. Being in tune or in touch with the universe to me is practice mindfulness at the moment. You can focus on simplest beauty like a flower, the wind, the air, each step you walk... even while cleaning the dishes, you focus on that task and that task alone. By doing so we are more receptive with everything around us. Stop being sleepwalkers, going through life without getting to know our own self with deep understanding. Ofcourse with whatsoever medical treatments, we can relief our symptoms to certain extend. Being conscious from our unconscious bias will make a great impact in our life journey. I hope you be gentle on yourself Mr. Tao. 🙏🌈

in reply to

Well put. Thanks for your insights I agree. Our psyche takes us where and when it will. Sometimes we're along for the ride other times we needs must take over the wheel. Since we are (some say) one with the Universe we are in tune or hopefully are with the variations of "time and tide" Our symptoms make up a diagnosis, they are a label. They aren't us, our soul or our being. Like any malady that affects us.. we have it .. it doesn't have us.. Like a cancer patient. That person isn't cancer, they don't introduce themselves as Hi, I'm cancer I have a Koko or David etc. What I'm trying to say is this. we have a disorder and with any disorder it's up to us to recognize the symptoms and effects and deal with them as best we can.. I guess I'm lucky in respect to symptom management.. Along with meds I try and be hopeful, I don't easily give in to my stuff.. yes sometimes it's overwhelming but I persevere. Life is too crazy in the best of times and too wonderful to give in to symptoms, and labels

in reply to

Thank you Mr. Tao🙏 So We are on the same page of how we deal with our condition. Oh goshhh for sure with the labeling. 😅😅😅 You hit the nail on the head! 🤣😂🤣😂 If you call yourself a pain in the arse, then definitely you are one☝️ 😂😂😂. If you continue refusing to transform and function on your subconscious mind then best wishes 🤣😂😅🥴🥴🥴

in reply to

That's the first time I've heard Joe Walsh and The Stones compared , let alone mentioned in the same sentence😉

I happen to believe that this so called disorder might not exactly be a disorder but a sign of genius. A lot of amazing and creative people struggle with depression and anxiety and bipolar disorder. There's a book I want to read, called Touched by Fire by Kay Redfield Jamison, that talks about this. Like we all know Van Gogh as the crazy artist who cut off his ear, but his beautiful painting Starry Night is one of the most famous and well loved paintings out there. Many famous authors and poets and singers and actors have had serious struggles with depression. Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Charles Dickens, Robin Williams, Vivian Leigh, Patty Duke, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Josh Groban, Mariah Carey, Adele, - need I go on? So I suppose I'm in good company!!!!!!

in reply to

Absolutely. It takes a genius to look at life and choose to live outside of the box. I've been outside of the box for so long it ....boggles the mind sometimes.

in reply to

Definitely. I happen to be left handed too, a lot of us lefties see the world in a different way. Barack Obama is left handed, so is Eminem. By the way, the exact title of the book is Touched With Fire, sorry.

in reply to

Thanks. Yup Lefty here to. Not only left handed Left politically

in reply to

Yeah me too. Trump can go down in flames.

in reply to

And how I'd like to light the first match! Now then we should refrain from politics It's a no no here on this website.

I think it very well could be. My first reaction is to blame all those who would pathologize us. Then I realize how we often pathologize ourselves as much or more than anyone else could. I know that’s true of me.
