Any non-religious therapists

Are there any therapists out there that are not religious? Mine is religious, I am not. I feel like it's ok for her to talk about her belief in God but when I discuss how I do not it is very evident that she gets offended. Why is it ok for religious people to shove God down your throat but not ok for non-believers to express why they don't believe.

It’s absurd to press religious beliefs and practices on anyone, let alone on patients’ mental health. There is no doubt that because these religions and manners are not based on real principles, they are unable to heal moral, mental, and spiritual crises in the core of being. There are non-religious therapists out there I am sure, you just need to look at their references/credentials before choosing them. Congratulations on your first step knowing how to separate that nonsense from not only your mental health but your own existence. Best wishes. 🙏

Hi this is Shnookie. Great mindfulness is totally correct. I’m 62 and was diagnosed as bipolar on depressed side and ADHD. I have been going to therapists and have been on meds since I was diagnosed in 1998. None of the therapists that I’ve have had has imposed their religious beliefs upon me. I am Jewish and have had evangelical and born again Christians try to proselytize

me b4. It’s not a pleasant feeling and I cut them off at the knees by stating I’m happy that your beliefs R good 4 U but I’m happy 😃 being Jewish and leave me alone.

U can do research on the Internet to find a therapist’s specialty areas. Your therapist is crossing over the line by expressing his religious beliefs. Good luck in finding a new therapist I’m here 4 U hugs 🤗 S

I would ask the therapist to keep her religion out of your sessions. It's unprofessional .

There are many people that believe there is only one religion.... theirs

We all have a right to our own beliefs.

We should not have to feel in uncomfortable.

It could be where I live, but that’s hard to find! 😭

As I researched therapists, I purposely picked ones who didn’t specialize in religious stuff.

But even then, all the ones I’ve gone to are. They aren’t necessarily pushy about it but they bring it up just enough to not be helpful to me lol I don’t need faith, I need my anxiety and depression fixed 😂

The answer is it's never ok to try and force others to believe in your religion. Why is she spending time promoting her beliefs on time you are paying for?

It is not okay for anyone to shove anything at you. However, I do think faith in a higher power is a big help with mental health. That higher power for you could be the forces of the universe.

I would try to find a different therapist. You need to feel comfortable with your therapist and you don't. I think a therapist should only talk about religion in response to something you bring up. I have spoken to my therapist about religious beliefs but in the context of an ongoing issue with my mother in law. I hope you find a therapist who is a better fit for you.

That therapist shouldn't be selling you religion, not unless he or she made it clear from the beginning that her methods are spiritually based. And once you'd made it clear you didn't want any therapy based on religion he or she should have accepted that and stopped it. But he or she didn't. They won't change, that's clear, so change your therapist and do it now.

When I was a child my mother took me to a demonstration of spiritual healing by the late Harry Edwards in the Albert Hall, London. I saw that man heal people in wheel chairs crippled with polio, newspaper journalists tried to prove he was a fraud and a charlatan but they failed. Edwards made it quite clear to everyone from the start that it was 'spiritual healing' and that his gift came from God. So nobody could complain that they were having religion pushed down their throats, everyone knew what to expect, both audience and those in need of healing. Different sort of therapy but the principle is the same.

If I were you I would report the therapist and find a new one. As soon as someone starts with religion talk... I shut down. I will not allow anyone to preach in my ears.
