I just changed insurance companies and am now through the healthcare marketplace (US) and have few options for local therapy. I called one place that didn't have great reviews online but was one of my few options. So I waited 2 weeks for an intake appointment today for her to ask all the same questions I already filled out online and then she told me I couldn't get in for a month to actually have therapy and they don't do teletherapy even though their website says they do! I can't wait that long and really need to talk to someone so I was considering online therapy (even though my insurance will likely not cover it and it's more expensive.) Does anyone have experience with online therapy and was it worth the money? If you're in the US were you able to get your insurance to cover any of it?

Has anyone found success with online therapy apps or websites?
I like Doctor on Demand. I have a great psychologist but the availability is horrible. tough to get an appointment when I need it. She is worth the wait!
I use online therapy only because the office is closed. And I also had to wait 3 wks to get the original appointment. Then the therapist doesn't have a weekly spot for me. My insurance is covering this but that may only be that the office is closed. It took some time to get used to but now I like being able to sit on my couch and not do any travel.
I did first try to find someone who was open and was unsuccessful. Teletherapy seems to be the wave of the future. My psychiatrist is also only online. He has way more patients this way and it is really hard to schedule with him. Covid has changed a lot of things. Keep looking around and check with your insurance. You may be surprised.
I did therapy online last year too because of the pandemic, which is basically the same, just via video. I was more asking about the apps like BetterHealth and TalkSpace that have a different model of therapy where you pay a flat fee and get to chat with your therapist throughout the week via text or video chat. Some you also get some video therapy sessions. That seems to be a bit different and I was curious if it was worth the cost.
In my opinion Dr. Tracey Marks Dr. Daniel Fox or Dr. Ramani provide information and tools for dealing with mental health issues. Whoever you decide on you will have to share your insurance information with them.
The pandemic has caused a backlog of cases. Of appointments. They are trying to help as many people as possible.
In the meantime there are relaxation excercise s that are available as well as meditation and yoga as well as music therapy and art. Exploring a new or revisiting an old hobby may help.
Please focus on self care and be aware of when you need to slow down. Take care.
Its not easy to say which one is better. I think I like online more for now.
