I started a new job about 3 weeks ago and was excited to leave my last job that I've been miserable at for years for a new opportunity. This new job is not turning out to be what I expected. I'm more stressed at the amount of work at this job than I was at my old job and I wasn't even supposed to be doing this much execution in this role. It was supposed to be more of a manager role and I feel like a lower level order taker. I'm given like 20 hours of work to do in a day and everything was already late when I got them assigned so I feel like I'm never going to catch up. I even tried to talk with my new boss about it and she basically told me to just suck it up that it's on me to do. And it's a newer company so the way things are done are not very organized. I knew I was taking a chance at this job but now I feel like I made a big mistake and that I'll never find a job I can be happy at.
And when I've been working from home for a year now and live alone, my work takes up almost all of my life. I don't expect it to all be fun but I'm already dreading tomorrow and need to do work over the weekend to get anywhere close to making headway on tasks. I've been working in marketing for over 20 years. You would think by now I'd be farther along than this and feel like I know where I'm going in my career but I feel even more lost than ever and like I took a big step back with this job.

It will get better. I spent many years in crappy jobs before I got the one I'm at. No it's not what my degree is in, but ir makes me "happy". Things are a tad screwy right now, people getting promoted, moving to different teams, so we have to take on more work and not sure if they'll get replaced. But I've been here almost 5 years and already want to be here another 20+. As the saying goes, you have to kiss a lot of frogs to get the Prince, same goes for jobs. You'll get there. I'm sorry it sucks now. I don't have the answer there. But I know it'll get better. Keep your chin up.
Yes. It's hard to find that will satisfy anyone. Sounds like this company was going to hire somebody and expected them to do the other persons work from when they left off
Kind of dirty they did for a new employee. Keep searching your day is coming and you will be Happy you kept looking. Newer companies are hard at first until they get the right people in there doing the system the right way. Good luck!!
Yes, luckily we hired someone additional today to help with some of the work I've been doing. But definitely not a good place to start someone off at a new job to load them down with a ridiculous amount of work and show them how behind you are on supporting your clients.
Yes I've taken several career tests over the years and even spent $1000 last year to work with a career coach who had me do all this work that basically lead me to the same thing I'm already doing so it was mostly a waste. There are other career paths that I might be interested in but at 41 I really don't want to start over at the bottom again. I have been dreaming of starting my own business for some time and have been trying to narrow that down what kind of business that is, but I always go round in circles. I do plan to start some kind of online ecommerce business but realistically I probably won't make enough money for some time for that to be my full time income. But I'm so stressed and overworked at my current job that I have no time to work on that anyway. 😤
