Musical Therapy

I’ve been listening to a lot of music lately since I had to stop doing quite a bit (I’m back to doing regular things now that I’m seeing someone professional).

I was always the kid with one headphone in no matter where I was or what I was doing. My mum even use to crack jokes that I was born with a headphone in my ear.

I figured I’d share some songs that have gotten me through some dark times, I’ll try not to add too many but music has saved me more times then I can say. I figured that maybe this way, people can share or listen or whatever else and that in some way maybe it can help.

Life Starts Now by Three Days Grace

(Most of TDG’s music has helped me but this one has helped me through some heavy shit.)

The Arms of Sorrow & End of Heartache by Killswitch Engage

(I know this is a huge debate for the band but I personally love Howard, his voice soothes me.)

Coming Apart, Hold Me Now & Sever by Red

Far Away, The Dark of You, Torn in Two and Until the End by Breaking Benjamin

In My Arms by Dead By April

Don’t lose you heart by Dream On, Dreamer

Another Life by Motionless in White

Old Wounds, What’s Wrong, & Empty by PVRIS

Gravity, Witness & Johnny Cash by Wage war

Sorry for all the songs but music has always resonated with and helped me when nothing or no one could.

I also apologize as a lot of these aren’t going to be the kind of music everyone enjoys but maybe there’s something on here some can take away from.

Thought it would be interesting to get something like this going but maybe that’s just me being too optimistic 😅

Hope you’re having a good day/night 🖤

I don't know anything about any of the songs you've listed. But I'm interested. Thanks!

Hope you’ll like them! I know they’re not for everyone given their genre but maybe there’s something there that you’ll like! 😌

I don’t know these either but music definitely fills me. I am less lyric and more movement. I grew up with classical, blues and rock all around me. Spotify would be the last subscription I would cancel if I had to choose. The last year I have been really into headphone activist and more recently John lurie.

I’m a lyric person 😛 I’ll have to check out both of those artists.

The bands I’ve mentioned have some pretty decent tunes but again it may not be for everyone which is totally okay but there could be another song or songs that one likes more, these are just some that have really helped me over time 😌

It is actually dancing that helps me. If I have some good music on I will dance all by myself. For inspiration my go to is stories or talks such as interviews. It doesn’t matter what it is as long as we find something constructive.

I agree 100%, whatever speaks to you right? I do like dancing but I get embarrassed and refrain from doing it cuz I dance like the typical white person who can’t dance to save their lives 😅

But I do sometimes, I should try it more, maybe I won’t be as embarrassed if I get used to it 🙃

I’m a typical white person too! I went to a salsa place pre COVID and the guys were so patient but getting my hips to move Latin style is tough! Forget getting my feet right! There was an online class via a group called creative mornings where she taught how to dance alone. I actually learned that I don’t move my arms enough! It was fun.

Dance when you’re by yourself—who’s to know if you’re great at it or not. It’s not about how you dance, it’s THAT you dance.

Very good point, I guess I get embarrassed of seeing myself do it but I’ll try to push through that 🙃

One of my online friends actually just got me into PVRIS so I’m 100% going to check that one out and I love TDG and never heard that one . I’ll probably check out all those songs because I’m quite positive I’ll enjoy them all :) thanks for sharing <3

I really enjoy PVRIS, she has such a nice voice. I actually met Adam Gontier a few years back, he was really nice and I was lucky enough to get a picture with him. It’s one of my favourite memories. His new band Saint Asonia is good too! I love the song Ghost. And no problem at all, thought I’d try something a little different 😌

Thanks for sharing these, they were mainly new names to me but I'm always open to listening to new things. It's good to hear music has helped you so much over the years, it's been similar for me and I also seem to have spent much of my life with earphones in!
