Advice and Encouragement

I could use some advice. I have anxiety and depression and just went back on my antidepressant 2 weeks ago. I should have never stopped it and plan never to stop again. I'm off work for 4-6 weeks and could use some encouragement while I'm waiting for it to start working. Any suggestions out there?

Hi there. How long did it take to kick in before? Maybe you could tell yourself that you have that amount of time until you start feeling better again. You're not the first one to have done this (I have too), so please don't feel guilty. I've learned my lesson and have not repeated it; I count that as success! After all, it's live and learn!

Breathe. Focus on air flow.

Watch light movies. Nothing that takes mental effort.

Take naps when tired.

Take walks outside if possible.

Eat simple foods.

Drink herbal tea.

Put together a jigsaw puzzle ( or maybe 5).

Try not to be alone.

Don’t be hard on yourself. This will pass.

Sending prayers your way.

Please be patient. If journaling helps go for it. I find that music which connects with how I'm feeling and then switching to different kinds of music helps. Some of my favorite movies too. Do you like Little Big Man or Home Alone or White Chicks or whatever movies you like. I'm telling myself rebuild redefine rediscover. I wish you well on your journey.

"This too shall pass" is both super annoying to hear when you're feeling like you do but also very accurate. If you don't already meet with a therapist that could help in the meantime and even ongoing. Some things that could help you feel better as well as distract you: paint, draw, color, watch a movie, binge watch a tv show, exercise, dance, reach out to an old friend, clean, organize, decorate. I hope things get better for you soon.

How are you doing now? Hope you are better. I couldn't help but notice that you tried TMS several years ago. Was that helpful at all? What antidepressant are you taking?
