Ever feel like you want to improve your mood but feel powerless to do so? This may be for you
The first thing I’d mention is inertia, the resistance to change. An object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion, unless acted upon by an external force. I believe this concept applies to our emotions too, if our emotions are stuck in one place, we’ll naturally resist change. That’s why it’s so hard to go from feeling a lack of motivation and happiness to an instant and dramatic improvement.
The larger the change, the larger the resistance. So that’s why I suggest gradual change. Start with something small, the resistance to that small change will be easier to manage. Once you’re in motion, inertia will be in your favor by trying to maintain the new trajectory. Then take it a step further, and then another but be careful, life isn’t friction free, if you don’t continue to maintain your mood, over time the ‘friction’ will gradually slow you back down to a stop.
One method to help start the process of change is to find something that inspires you. Sometimes instead of focusing on the things you want to stop doing, it helps to focus on what you want to start doing. Possible idea starters might be to read some books of interest, try drawing, find new music, look into baking/cooking, spend more free time with loved ones; anything (so long as it’s safe) that inspires you and makes you feel good That inspiration will spark your motivation to act. That action will produce change, that change will produce results, and the results can either inspire you to keep going, adjust something, or switch it up entirely. Give it your best if something doesn’t work out, it doesn’t mean failure, it means there’s something else for you to try
Overall, try to find something that inspires you, act on it, go for a level of gradual change that works for you, and be diligent in nourishing growth. When you nourish healthy growth and change in your mood, over time it’ll sprout into a strong and happy mood; Your happy place
Your happiness isn’t just a destination, it’s a journey of progression
I wish you all the best! I hope this is helpful
