I wake up with it and it lasts all day and night. I’ve been in a vicious cycle for months now. I have learned from therapy and from personal experience in the past, that it can go down at night because you’re not faced with a whole day ahead of you.

How do you get through the day

Overcomer13 profile image
Overcomer13 in reply toWhiskers16

Right now, minute by minute. I honestly want to give up, but I have two children who need me. My youngest is a year and a half, so I have no choice but to function enough to take care of him. Nothing is working though. Using “distress tolerance skills” or any non-med skills (including exercise), isn’t working to bring it down.

Someone mentioned try vitamin D3 or b12. Ask your doctor about your levels. I use 5 htp it helps some and meds from doctor.

I just recently saw that (5htp) as an ingredient in a calming supplement. What is it, and does it help with the anxiety?

in reply toOvercomer13

From webmd website

Overview Information

5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is a chemical by-product of the protein building block L-tryptophan. It is also produced commercially from the seeds of an African plant known as Griffonia simplicifolia.

It took me some time to get used to it. Be careful there are side effects with heart issues. Ask your doctor first. I get it at dollar general.

This is so terrible to have to live through. I understand that horrible anxiety feeling.☹ I read in your profile that meds are not working now. Have you been on Xanax for anxiety?

Overcomer13 profile image
Overcomer13 in reply toDownandout123

I have been on Xanax and other benzodiazepines for my anxiety in the past, but my current psychiatrist won’t prescribe me anything like that because it can be addictive. She doesn’t understand that I’m barely holding on.

Downandout123 profile image
Downandout123 in reply toOvercomer13

I'm so sorry for that. I don't know what I would do without Xanax. And sometimes I get SOOO anxious that it barely does anything. But breathing techniques, meditation-nothing natural works for me.

Overcomer13 profile image
Overcomer13 in reply toDownandout123

I’m sorry that you struggle with it so much too. When it’s so high that anxiety meds don’t work, and nothing else is working, it’s torture. What do you do when your Xanax doesn’t work?

Downandout123 profile image
Downandout123 in reply toOvercomer13

Honestly, I try to take more. My np has me rationed to 2 a day. Sometimes it gets so bad that I feel like my heart is going to beat through my chest. I get so afraid because I think something is going to happen.

That’s me every day at some point then there’s the sweats, tingling arms etc no let up during the day

Downandout123 profile image
Downandout123 in reply toWhiskers16

That's absolutely AWFUL.☹ So sorry.

At least for night time, ask your doc about Trazadone. It's non-addictive and it has the side effect of drowsiness that is a drawback for daytime but a bonus for night. Very effective on anxiety.

I dm in the uk I assume Xanax is like diazepam.. I do take 5mg before bed eith magnesium which helps me sleep. I did try 5 mg 3 times a day but it wasn’t lasting long enough to get round to the next one and she said That’s the mist I could take in 1 day

Downandout123 profile image
Downandout123 in reply toWhiskers16

But the diazepam is helping at least a little bit during the day?

Whiskers16 profile image
Whiskers16 in reply toDownandout123

I’m only allowed 1 a day at night... if I get really desperate I take a half tablet during the day. I know I should but sometimes it’s the only thing that gets me through

Downandout123 profile image
Downandout123 in reply toWhiskers16

You need more. You can't live like that day in and day out. I think these doctors who prescribe medication need to feel what we go through, and THEN make a decision about how much we can have. I'm not looking to be on a high all the time. I JUST WANT TO FEEL NORMAL!!!😞

Overcomer13 profile image
Overcomer13 in reply toDownandout123

Oh my gosh, yes! I’ve wished that my psychiatrist could feel what I live with everyday, and then maybe she would actually prescribe me something for my anxiety. She says benzodiazepines are addictive, but like you, I’m not looking to get high, just feel normal. I feel suicidal going through this, how could anxiety meds be worse?!

Downandout123 profile image
Downandout123 in reply toOvercomer13

How terrible.☹ You need to keep telling her that you feel.suicidal. SOMETHING has to change!!

Overcomer13 profile image
Overcomer13 in reply toDownandout123

I’m looking for a new psychiatrist because she just isn’t hearing me and has her mind made up about my treatment.

Downandout123 profile image

Good for you!! I have also tried over the counter things that friends recommended to me, to calm my nerves and anxiety. NOTHING worked!😣

I told my gp that I felt suicidal a few times she just told me to think of my daughter!!’I’m Not asking for the world just to be able to work and go outside on my own

Downandout123 profile image
Downandout123 in reply toWhiskers16

I just DON'T understand that reply from her!! Can you go right outside your house on your own, on a porch, or in a yard?

Whiskers16 profile image

I go out in my garden but struggle to go for a walk or the shop on my own

Off and on my entire life. It has gone into a kind of remission at times but it always comes back.

I'm the complete opposite. Get up, all ok then as soon as it starts to get dark bam it's depression and anxiety central. Can't settle to read or watch tv and my bedroom has become a battleground. Keep telling myself nothing lasts but this is going on forever!

Overcomer13 profile image
Overcomer13 in reply toPurpletara

I know exactly how you feel about it going on forever. I keep wondering how it could possibly go on like this for months.

Whiskers16 profile image
Whiskers16 in reply toOvercomer13

That’s exactly how I feel been like this since July. Have always suffered but not this bad

Downandout123 profile image
Downandout123 in reply toWhiskers16

Me too!!! Well I've always suffered from depression and anxiety, but it wasn't until a few months ago that the panic started as soon as I got up. I work 5 days a week, and the anxiety is definitely there at work, but for some reason, when I'm off on the weekends, it attacks me the minute I open my eyes. I can't figure it out for the life of me!!

So interesting how we are all so different. You must be a morning person. It's official name is called a Lark Chronotype. I make a comment below to Whiskers16 explain a little more. You might also enjoy this YouTube video from a sleep specialist youtu.be/ht5K_3H0Xc0

Hi Whiskers16, have you heard of our sleep patterns? Amazingly, some people are morning people or night people, and a select few are actually both and neither. But most people fit into either morning or night. I watched an amazing YouTube video discussion on it. So interesting. The discussion was on sleep and the patterns around sleep, conducted by a sleep specialist. Here is the link if you would like to know more, it just might explain why you are feeling anxious in the mornings. youtu.be/ht5K_3H0Xc0 I hope this helps.
