Thoughts on Virtual Therapy Appointments

I'm curious as to your thoughts on virtual appointments. I'm in a profession where I talk with clients in my state, other states, and other countries, via Zoom or Facetime quite often, and it's, at best, awkward. Both start speaking, back up, "what was that?", apologies, etc. I've been fortunate that my therapist has continued to see me in office until now. I have such a hard time talking about the things I keep to myself anyway, and to me, while I completely and totally respect her desire to protect herself from Covid, virtual conversations do not work for me. I'm not angry. I'm not disappointed. But I'm seriously considering cancelling my appointment this week. To me, talking via Zoom is less personal than talking to a bar tender. I'd rather journal, keep on working on me, and see how things go around the first of the year. What are some of your experiences with virtual therapy? Has it been helpful? Do you experience the lag time, hang ups, both speaking, missed words, repeating yourself, etc.?

Thanks!

I prefer face-to-face like most but I don't mind using just the phone for therapy. I have used Zoom for non-therapy stuff and I don't like it because of blurriness and delays. The delays lead to interruptions, etc. However, I hope to start some coaching and the provider uses Zoom so I guess I will have to use it.

I did virtual therapy this past Spring. There was only a little bit of the awkwardness you said in this post. I'd be honest about your fears/concerns with your therapist. There might be things you can do to help. I wouldn't stop going; it's much harder to get back into it once you stop. Plus, we don't know how long COVID will last.
