Anxiety and now Vertigo.

My wife suffered from anxiety during lockdown and still remains to a lesser extent these days, but following a visit to our GP for dizziness and a 'fuzzy head' he diagnosed Vertigo and prescribed Stemetil 5mg.

Now a glass or two of wine each night helps her to sleep, but is that safe for this drug as taking only one in the morning.

Giving up wine will be difficult so are they any other treatments that could help Vertigo?

UPDATE: Now prescribed Metahistine 8mg, started today so hopefully better treatment.

There are other medications but almost all prescription meds are going to interact with alcohol unfortunately.

I’d run this by your doctor, while alcohol is good for putting you to sleep it’s such a sleep disruptor as it’s metabolized in the body. I’d ask for something to help her sleep and can take with in conjunction with the med she’s been been prescribed for her vertigo.

There certain yoga poses for vertigo. My holistic therapist pointed out a few neck stretched as I also suffer from vertigo due to the pressure and level of stress I am under. It’s mostly because my muscles around my neck are stiff. Stress causes stiffness in the body which can lead to vertigo.

I have always used Diphenhydramine 50mg, an antihistamine, the active ingredient in Benedryl. I also learned to breath all down through my lungs. Shallow breathing is a way many people shut down their feelings and shallow breathing can make you dizzy.

I have vertigo as well. I do Flonase. Doesn't take long to work. Supposedly dries up the liquid that is in ear canal so crystals can settle. Hope it helps your wife!!
