Does chamomile tea do anyone any good? Or what else - I need sedatives too often

Camomile Tea works great for upset bellys...REALLY😀 Only downside..tastes n smells like pasture grass,lol

Unfortunately, Chamomile tea has never helped me in any way at any time. Actually, no tea has ever helped me. And, Chamomile tea doesn't taste too good unless it's mixed with a huge cup of sugar...sugar tends to make almost anything taste better.

I've been on every sedative I've ever heard of since I was 24....now I'm 70. I can share with you that the best is Klonopin, at least for me. None of the others helped at all...maybe it's an age thing.

Sure wish I had some magic answer. The thing is I'm addicted to Klonopin. Now my trusty shrink has quite suddenly decided to reduce my dose...suffering. His reasoning? "You're addicted!!!!!!!!!!" Well, he's been giving me the same dose for 10 years. Now he's reducing all doses of all my meds. Don't know what I'll do but I'll think of something.

Wine doesn't help at all.

I live in a DUMP and the thought of taking a bath is more than repulsive.

There is one thing that does help. I have two magical dogs. IF I can get out of this dump....usually only want to go out after dark...taking them for a walk helps me and it helps them as well.

Sometimes chocolate helps me...sugar rush, I guess. Ice cream helps.

All of what I've written must sound silly but sad to say, this is all I have to offer.

You are not alone with these feelings.

Hi again sophie4,

I know first-hand what a nightmare cutting back on these dangerous drugs can be. There is a website, I think it is called the Ashton manual, to advise on safe ways to cut back. I can look for it tomorrow for you if you can't find it. Cutting way back suddenly is not only painful, it is dangerous. Ask your doctor to do it VERY gradually. That link should help.

So much of what you describe about in your life resonates with me. Not a sugar addict, but I adore very dark chocolate. 85 - 90 cacao range European chocolate. Expensive but worth it.

My my nothing sounds silly.

It is kind of you to remind me I am not alone with these feelings. Write to me again when you like. That'd be nice.

Omg I’ve been on Klonopin for 30 yrs! They started me on this at 20- I’m 52! At this point if my dr ever decided to take me off it... I don’t know what I would do!!! I’d probably drink myself to death! I can’t get out of the house without it. Surprisingly it still works. I was a mess! Now I can function!!!! Exercising has helped big time!!!!! Reading your post made me nervous. I look at it as my medicine to help me live a normal life!!!! It’s a double sword! It’s addictive and they give it to you.... but it helps to live!!! I’ve tried everything!!! I notice memory loss. But this is my disease “ anxiety, agoraphobia! “ I never take to get “ high or calm”. Some Doctors really suck!! Good luck

I am so sorry my post make you feel nervous. I know exactly what you're talking about, to my misfortune. I can't imagine how it still works for you. In my experience you have to be so careful how often you take these drugs, so careful. Bingo, they stop working and you need more to get the same effect. Damn doctors let you go down that path and don't ever warn you until you're in hell.

Do you mind if I ask how often you take it? My experience says even once a week is iffy. I need an alternative for sure.

I think Celestial Seasonings chamomile tea and Sleepy time tea can be very calming. Along with doing things like taking a relaxing bath and listening to some of the various meditation music that is on YouTube. I sometimes like to get a lavender spray and spray my pillows and bedsheets with it before trying to sleep, that scent is known to be calming and relaxing. And touch can be self soothing, like even if you don't have a pet like a dog or cat, having some kind of furry stuffed animal or some soft blanket can be very soothing and I know that sounds more like something for a little kid but it's good to know different ways to calm yourself.

Yes I agree. I use both those Celestial Seasonings teas and they help with sleep. Sleepytime works always. A little honey (local is great) if you want a healthy sweetener! 👍

I used to enjoy Sleepytime Tea back in the dark ages when Celestial Seasonings was only at the health food stores. I forgot all about it. As I remember it, the original owner used to gather the herbs himself wandering about. The dark ages.

NBP- chamomile does well to calm for me and I’m wound pretty tight. Remember when it comes to herbalism, use a companion. That is, simples can be efficacious, such as just chamomile, but pairs or trios are better for effect & cellular recognition. That is to say, take chamomile and make a blend. Use other nervines such as oat straw. Remember Maude, from Harold & Maude. She loved oat straw tea. Or go ahead and explore the other common teas that may work well for you such as raspberry leaf, nettles, or feverfew for instance. You can create a blend that suits your spirit, you’ll know it when you find it, and you’ll know it because you will love it & crave it too. Those are just a couple that come to mind for western herbal tisanes. Also toss in mint any kind for flavor, and of course honey helps to sweeten the deal. Have you tried Ayurveda. CCF tea= cumin coriander fennel tea, the 3 sisters of dosha balancing. Keep in touch. Bee well!

Oh yeah, I have also loved western name Gotu Kola= Brahmi in Ayurveda. Plus there’s Kava Kava if you want a real heavy mellow. Explore the herbal medicine wheel, it’s v. informative. Bless!

I haven't studied Ayurveda per se, but because I love Indian food I have a very full pantry of spices. I use them for more than flavoring: thyme for sore throat, fennel for digestion... I just had a wonderful lauki (bottle gourd) soup to help my upset digestion. It worked -- how shall I say -- it worked two days worth? (Laugh.)

Would you explain (details please) CCF tea? I have all the whole spices here already.

What is NBP? If I understood, you suggest buying loose herbal teas of a single herb and experimenting with blending them. Is that right?

Oh my goodness, Harold and Maude. That wonderful soundtrack is playing in my mind right now. Haven't thought of that movie since, oh, years back, original release. That's a time capsule right there...

I found a blend of camomile, lavender and rose in a puera tea blend works well for me, I buy it loose for my teapot from an online company called Attic teas, they also do an really nice digestive tea which is my fav.

Seems to help anxiety for you? Is that the whole ingredient list, I'm not a buying online kind of person. Maybe I can find something similar.

I find it soothing and it doesn't stimulate me like other teas can so in that way yes it helps calm me for sleep though I only use it occasionally and yes they are all of the ingredients. X

camomile tea will not work in depression, its only for removing mild dullness in body, go for doctor or talk cycologist ,me also suffering , check pills available online

Teapigs do a "Calm" tea with Valerian which you find in Kalms tablets. It's really quite good. They also do a "Sleep" which has lavender but is so subtle and works a treat.

Thanks. I never heard of "Teapigs" so I looked it up. They may have it at a Wal-Mart near me so I'll take a look. I like chamomile tea a lot, and Hiba recommended lavender I think.

Waitrose have it, some on offer at the moment but I called Teapigs directly and the were really helpful. If your order comes to more than £15. (which sounds a lot but they seem to last well and some are more expensive than others) you get free recorded delivery. Again, let me know what you think if you try it. 👍

I put german chamomile in my diffuser before bed sometimes. no idea if it helps but it is relaxing before bed. melatonin works.

Diffuser? Do you mean something to scent the room? I can't do that because of my bird. They are very sensitive to strong odors. I agree with you about the melatonin. I had to play games for a while to find the proper dose, but now it helps me get some relief.
