YOU CAN STOP IT!

I know, anxiety and depression can only be managed through medication. But we all have to agree that there's something in ourselves that is wrong. Something in our mindset that makes us think that we are all victims of this world. But no. We do things that are bad too. Most times we make the lives of the ones who care about us a living hell and when they can'ttake it anymore, they shout at us and tell us how bad we are. And that's the part we have to change. Other people are not to blame for most of our problems and if they reach out to help us, we have to be better persons ourselves to give them a chance of succeeding in making us feel better. Stop being an a**hole. You can do it!

Hi Joseph.

I agree with you on this. I am not invalidating the seriousness of mental/emotional/psychic pain. Right now am in the depths of despair and it does feel like with age the torment has gotten worse. But Covid has forced me to evaluate the life that I have lived, and I can see now that I have made my own problems much worse much of the time, and have definitely hurt the loved ones who tried to help. I think I decided at 19 that I had Depression, and became quite obsessed with reading about Depression, rather than seeking a good life. Eventually the label of depression became an excuse for me to not face fears, go after what I wanted, so that I avoided maturity and fulfilment. It is hideous to live with mental health problems, but it is worse to not try and live your best life in spite of them. I speak for myself, no disrespect to others who are in this situation. If I could meet my younger self again, or advise a young person who reminded me of my younger self, I would advise them to not allow negative thoughts and labels to define their lives.

Depression and anxiety can not be managed only with medication you can’t depend on pills alone. Not all people take pills. You need to develop coping skills to deal with your anxiety and depression and support from others. Yes I agree we are not victims. If we make other people’s life hell. Don’t you think some people make ours too? We should NEVER blame ourselves for living with depression or anxiety. It is not our fault. Not every person out there who has to deal with has someone that reaches out to them. Sone people are alone living with it. Depression really is sadness, emptiness, a deflated person who is hurting inside., in the pit. Anxiety is unable to do anything, always worried in fear of something bad that will happen. It’s incredibly hard to deal with. So that’s where self care comes along . Having compassion for yourself. So pills alone will not fix it. Just my thoughts

Depression, most of the time, leads to a chemical imbalance that, if not treated with the right medication, can make someone feel terribly miserable. Only when it's really mild, it can be solved by self care and coping skills alone.

I never said it wasn’t a chemical imbalance. I said just because you take the medication alone that won’t fix the problem. We are not our pills. We can’t define ourselves by our pills.

They don't, but they give you the grounds so that you can fight for your right to feel well!

You are missing the point, we already established medication is good for depression. However, developing good coping skills and self care is very important. Any-who

I think what "survivor4ever" is trying to say is that pills is not the only, magical, solution for depression, anxiety or whatever mental disease you can think about, I deal with anxiety, minor depression, phobias, social anxiety and OCD everyday and I've never needed medication

I'm not saying that there aren't people who need pills, but it's not "the only way to manage it" since there are people like me who doesn't take them and are perfectly fine
