Acceptance

When we live with anxiety, depression and PTSD if with don’t accept it it’s going to be incredibly hard for us to live today. First thing, I want to say though. We are not defined by these conditions. Meaning we are not depression or anxiety. Example someone with Diabetes would never say “ I am diabetes” they would say “ I have Diabetes” so we should never look at it like I am Depression. How about I live with depression and anxiety. Therefore, we take the power away from it. Now, back to acceptance. When we don’t accept it, the more we resist it the more power it takes over us and it won’t allow it to move on with our lives. I understand taking medication and seeing doctors for the rest of your lives can for some us seems like “why me” “ it doesn’t help or I don’t want to do this for the rest of my life”. Well medication helps a little or a lot for some people. However, it’s not going to fix everything. We need to develop coping skills along with it not just depend on pills. When you accept that you have these conditions you can take it’s power away from it and recognize these thoughts and feelings are not you. But are separate from you . You can now work on getting through the day and I understand you use to do different things before this happen to you, but now you can learn to do new things. It’s not what you can’t do. But what can I do. Lose the Cant’s and find the Can’s . Just my thoughts

I agree with everything you said, but one of the purposes of taking ad's is to help you feel well enough to be able to go to therapy and work through your issues. Sometimes we need therapy to be able to move forward and learn healthy coping skills.

Above all we have to turn our mindset from negative to positive otherwise changes can't be made and we begin to heal.

We are all different and sometimes life's circumstances are unable to be changed, for example those with physical health problems and painful conditions.

I now have physical health problems too. I am in my 60's and always had excellent physical health until my late 50's when I was diagnosed with lung disease (copd, but not severe or anything) and for the last 3 years chronic back pain which greatly limits my mobility and I use a stick.

I find my biggest problem these days is doctors insisting on focussing on my depression making my health worse when in fact it's the reverse.

I can see that. Sounds like your life changed greatly . So glad your still here. Sounds like your not letting it stop you even though your life changed greatly. I’ve had to deal with surgeries that was so intense. Did you let this depression define you? For me sometimes my health problems cause my depression. Because it a consistent reminder. But other times my depression comes out of nowhere just like my anxiety I can recognize these health problems will always be here for me and can’t do much anything about it . So I focus on what can I do of course I don’t always succeed. I don’t have all good days. I have bad ones too trust me.. I want to thank you and appreciate you opening up and sharing your story with me. Always here to support you
