Breathe

I can’t remember the last time I was free and able to breathe at will. All I know is that I took it for granted and regret that so much because now all I do I hold my breath and gasp for air. I want to breathe again..I want to live again, but instead I have the weight of my anxiety and depression sitting on my chest and I can’t seem to escape.

When can I breathe again?

Hi Melanidlf.

If you aren't in therapy I would talk to the dr and try that first. If you are and it still isn't working, I would ask the dr about doing a blood test to check your vitamin levels and then together you might discuss some medication to help you.

Best of luck!

Good morning🌤

Anxiety really affects our ability to breathe normally

I take four deep breaths, hold it & count to seven than let it out for eight

This really helps me get calmer & Lowers my anxiety.

Each individual with A & D is different & must figure out how to find relief for self

Exercise is the activity that seems to help me the most

I wish you the best!

Hi Melanidlf. Sorry to hear you are having these challenges. I also practice the inhaling for 4, holding for 7, and exhaling for 8...but I add lavender essential oil to help relax me. I hope this helps you a little...every little bit counts.

Don't worry, Malannidlf, if you've been told by a doctor that it's anxiety then there is nothing to fear. Breathing is something the nervous system does automatically for you, you couldn't not breathe if you tried. Nobody can hold their breath for more than a few minutes, your effort would be over ruled by your nervous system and you would be firced to breathe in.

I think the problem is that you have become obsessed with your breathing, breathlessness is a very common symptom of anxiety. Just accept the feeling secure in the knowledge that it is not life threatening. Yes, accept it for the time being and let your body/nervous system take over your breathing. Stop trying to do what your body does naturally.

Look to addressing your anxiety, work closely with your doctor if not already. Make changes to your life to remove the causes of your anxiety, be ruthless if necessary and seek the advice of someone you can trust.

But above all ACCEPT the strange feelings of breathing and thus reduce your anxiety which causes this symptom. Things will revert to normal in time.
