Citalopram question.

Does anyone split a 20mg dose between morning and evening? I am taking 10mg in the morning for anxiety but by 6pm I am so agitated and restless, literally don’t know what to do with my body or my brain. I am thinking I might need another dose in the evening. Been on citalopram twice before and it really helped but this time I am struggling on the lower dose.

Hi lizzy, Sometimes we do ourselves an injustice (for whatever reason)by splitting a recommended dosage in half. The efficacy of the full dose

than goes down which can be why by 6pm you are restless and agitated.

Please tell your doctor what you have been taking, a half dose twice a day.

Maybe by taking the whole dose in the morning, it may just pull you through

the entire day. Good Luck :) xx

Thank you for the advice. I havent started on 20mg yet but wondered if it would work better split. I think I will ask for the increase and take it in the morning to see what happens first .

Lizzy. it's all about the right medication and dosage but thetime of day you take it can play a big part in how it works for you.

I've had that happen to me. Switching a med from morning to night

made all the difference in the world w/o having to start over again

with a new med or a new dose.

Give your doctor/pharmacist a call and see what they might suggest :)xx

Good morning Lizzy.. As Agora1 told, I have also shifted my dose from morning to evening. Initially my Doc suggested to take the med in the morning 8am. But by evening, I used to be nervous and agitated with no interest in food and mainly sleep deprivation. So I tried to change the dose to 6pm and it worked for me, though slight nervousness (bearable) in the afternoon..but It worked.. so try to play around with the time to see when it works for you..Good luck

Thank you, I will skip this mornings dose and take this evening, will give it a couple weeks to see if that helps. Actually thinking about it, changing to the evening might help my early morning stomach anxiety because the medication will still be 12 hours in my system as opposed to 20 hrs when I take it at 10 am. Definitely worth a try anyway.
