Froze in the store

Has this happened to any of you, I was in Walmart grabbing a few things. Then I couldn’t get down the isle! I asked someone to grab me what I needed. This has happened many times before. My husband usually does the food shopping. But I felt so embarrassed. I think being home all the time may have made me too comfortable. I was agoraphobic when I was in my 20’s. Mental illness sucks and robs you of so much, even if you look ok!!!

I’m confused as to what you’re asking. Are you asking if I’ve ever asked anyone to hand me something I couldn’t get to in the aisle. Or in your tile indicated you “froze in the store.” Are you saying you couldn’t say excuse me and get down the aisle?

I’ve asked someone to hand me something if they were in the way. And I’ve probably had a panic attack in a store. But I don’t know if that’s what you’re talking about.

It sounds like you handled it well however so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Hi Spooky99, having been Agoraphobic myself, I believe that being in for so long might

have put some reminiscing fear in your mind. Don't allow this incident to set you back.

Focus on the positive outcome. It sounds like you not only went out to Walmart, but with

the help of another shopper, you got what you needed. Now that you are at home, focus

on the success you made. You did good. I know how big a step that was for you. Bravo :) xx

There have been a couple of times in the grocery store where I've felt panicked. Especially when the store is crowded and there's lines so darn long......I hear what you're saying. Just too many people and too much stimulation. Perhaps just going before 3 or 4 pm when there's not so many other people would be helpful.

I agree ,that Mental health can be a handicap,it can hold us back but it can also move us as you have experienced,to move on and achieve ,it may not seem that way at the time -------I too had a form of agorophobia, and it held me back at least 10yrs---its all about talking to someone who understands and you have conquered many things relax and let life flow -it will be less of a chore---i Have no one who I can relate to and im almost 75yrs young--worry gets us no where at all, endless time wasted, but we are still here ,,,
