I started a new job at a long term care facility and it’s miserable. The people are great. The work is not stressful, and I don’t like it. My mental illness caused me to not to be able to work my love of Emergency nursing. I’m afraid this miserable job, for me, will cause a backslide of my progress. Has anyone else dealt with this??

Thank u for sharing. It's ok to not like your job. So many people do. If you are so miserable find a new job. I am a supporter of people who follow their passion. If nursing is your passion find another job. To me life is precious and working at a place u dont like is miserable. Life is too short- find something different
I understand you Nurse7624. I've work in the medical field all my life. I love working
with patients and yet got to a point in my life where I wanted more. That's when I
became a Paramedic because I too love the Emergency aspect in working with patients.
I hope you choose something that can fulfill your needs without setting you back. xx
I wouldn’t think of it as a backslide, its more like you are taking time to care for yourself! I’m a nurse also and I felt so stressed last year that my mental health was suffering and I had to make a change as well. Who knows maybe in the future you will be able to go back to your passion
A long term care facility is at the other end of the spectrum from.ER. Maybe get a bit closer by working PACU or a surgery center? Somewhere you feel challenged but not overdoing it.
I’m not allowed to work a “stressful” area according to the dr. I have to work slow pace.
Maybe you are working at a way to slow pace. Try to find a happy medium. If you are bored at your job and dislike it, that can cause a negative impact as well as working at a too stressful job. Have you ever thought about being a dialysis nurse?
Hey there, just curious as to what makes it miserable for you? While in nursing school I was the only person that enjoyed clinicals at the LTC facility. I enjoyed memory care very much. Buuuut, I flunked out of the nursing program...😅
On a serious note, I wish they had more support for nurses- so much burnout and PTSD goes unnoticed in the profession.
Continue taking care of yourself- I hope you can get back to what you enjoy most! Sending positive thoughts your way🌻
It’s just too slow paced for me. Don’t get me wrong, the staff is nice, and the residents are cute and sweet. The slow pace of not doing IVs and intubating patients and such, it just drives me crazy. I have to be busy.
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement!
