What music do you listen to to cheer up and feel better???

Music helps me get through anything. Right now Survivor by Destinys Child and Calling All Angels by Train is getting me through all these crazy times. What songs help you?

I absolutely love music!!! I listen to oldies but goodies, rock, and I love that song by Train. I fell in love with the song, "Someone to Love" when I heard the "Rottweiler on the Masked Singer perform it. He did a better job than the original!!

Music is so therapeutic for me. I listen to a wide variety.

I do love Iris by the Googoodolls:)

in reply toDolphin14

I love how that song saved that band and propelled them in a new direction where they are writing more positive songs. It's a beautiful transformation to hear what they have out now compared to their songs before Iris. I also like their song Better Days.

I hadn't listened to their music in awhile. Your name got me listening when I saw it the other day.

I will have to check out the newer stuff. Is Johhnie still handsome lol??

in reply toDolphin14

He's married and they have a daughter together. I'm happy for him. I'm older myself and as I've grown older I no longer put all these celebrities on pedestals like I may have when I was younger. I'm glad Madonna and Cher are still around.

Good for him. I watched the Iris video this am, he was so handsome.

Let's keep on listening. Can't go wrong with music, so many benefits.

Thank you for your post.

I love northern soul, it’s so upbeat and fast, it’s hard to stay down listening to it

The world would be a sad place without music, in my senior yrs. I have turned to classical music. When I'm down I go onto U Tube & get lost in an Orchestra. Bliss!! Glad it helps you. 😊👍

in reply toBaily

I should try that. I don't know if I'd have the patience to listen to a long slow orchestra, but I do like some of the Hooked On Classics compilations that they put together with a beat. I wish people would be more specific about what songs they just love, because I'm not going to disrespect anyone's choice of music on here, that's not what I'm about. Is there a particular symphony you really like?

Yes there are quite a few, sorry don't think I can spell their names. Tut Tut!!

I love Kate T Lang, Lenard Cohen both sing Hallelujah & it's brilliant. Amy Winehouse, Tina Turner etc.ect. Most Operas, you could definitely loose yourself in Opera for a couple of hrs. Any of Andrew Loyd Webber musicals.

Do tell me your taste in music & which one helps you. 😊😊

in reply toBaily

A very LONG time ago I actually saw the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Phantom of the Opera. That was an experience!!! I used to love the music from that, now if I listen to it, I might find it somewhat creepy. I listen to a little bit of everything. I will say in general though, I'm not crazy about the onslaught of all this rap music. I'm also getting tired of singers dropping swear words into songs. Recently I've been listening to Taylor Swifts new album that dropped on YouTube called Folklore. I'm considering paying the $12/month price to watch YouTube with no ads, especially because it seems they want to stop making CDs. Some songs that cheer me up are Always Tomorrow by Gloria Estefan, Fireflies by Owl City, and Things Can Only Get Better by Howard Jones. Tina Turner is such an inspiring person. I always wished I could be a famous singer or actress. Now I'm about to turn 50 in August and I'm so broke right now and I haven't worked in years. I want to work and I'm not sure anyone will hire me for anything. I have trouble with severe depression and anxiety, and so many people can be really cold. Didn't mean to tell you all that, but that's my situation. Please write back if you want to. Or you can chat with me privately on here. And another song I really like that's out now is Bluebird by Miranda Lambert.

HI, sorry to hear you are not working, it helps to have structure in your life along with the camaradie.

Depression is a killer, you have to work so hard to stay above it. Hope you have good friends. Back to music, Queen, Freddie Mercury has helped me loads of times, also Meat Loaf, love the Lyrics. Where are you from? I live in Scotland. When I'm feeling really bad I force myself to go out in the country, looking and feeling nature has a real calming effect. Take care & God Bless.

in reply toBaily

Wow, Scotland, what's living there like??? I'm stuck in Michigan in America. Too many people around here are waaaay too into Eminem!!! I saw the movie Bohemian Rhapsody about Freddie Mercury and Queen, it was very interesting. I know the hit songs by Queen like We Are The Champions but I don't know any of their songs that aren't hits. For a long time, and probably like a lot of women out there, I really got into listening to Sting. I like The Police too but I know more of the songs from his solo career. Sister Moon and If I Ever Lose My Faith are two of my favorites from him. I also like all these sweet romantic songs by Darren Hayes, but too many of them will remind me of my ex so sometimes I put a stop to listening to that. Its funny how music will remind you of certain people. I'm still a Madonna fan, and I know how she can be, but I really admire her because she just does not give up and her songs inspire me. Please keep talking to me if you have the time, rather talk about music than depression anytime.

Ha Ha!! Yes any day, let's keep cheery. Living in Scotland is great, I was born here it's in my blood. I guess you know we are a patriotic bunch. I am an unpredictable woman, depending on mood and energy you will hear from me, I enjoy talking to you. Are you political? ? They say you should never discuss politics sex or religion. Well I enjoy gardening, I find it therapeutic

Michigan....Wow!! I will google it & get a bit of its history, at the moment it's just a name, the States are huge and diverse, interesting.

Well that's it for now, take care.

in reply toBaily

Hello again!!!! The way politics is these days, for now I want to stay away from that. I might say something you will completely disagree with and then you might not want to talk to me anymore. America is too polarized and divided right now and it's terrible. How are you dealing with the coronavirus pandemic in Scotland? In Michigan, any store you go into we have to wear masks. I'm so tired of it already, I wear glasses and they get a little fogged up sometimes, that's the so called new normal now. Okay, since you mentioned politics, I'll go there, I just hope I'm not offending you in any way. I don't know too much about the whole Brexit situation, maybe you can tell me your views on that. For the record, I can't stand Donald Trump and I did not vote for him. I just bought the book his niece Mary Trump wrote about him, and I think she's very brave to do it knowing how vicious and ugly Trump can be. Enough of that. I'm done listening to Taylor Swifts Folklore album, to tell the truth I didn't like it that much. I've been listening to the latest music from the Dixie Chicks too- who now just call themselves The Chicks. I like a few of their new songs but I've listened to the entire album and really it's quite sad because most of it is about going through divorce and it's a little too much for me to take. I tried listening to a few songs by Meatloaf but I couldn't get into it. The main song I know by him is that- I would do anything for love but I won't do that song- when I hear it I'm always wondering what won't he do??? Okay, I feel like I'm talking too much, please respond back when you can.

Hiya, you make me laugh, please don't worry about offending me, different opinions make it more interesting. Having said that I am relieved you didn't vote for Trump, I put my T V off when he comes on, I can never understand why the " good people ". get assassinated & the Horrors survive. Yes we are all wearing masks, people are now buying designer ones, their mad. It's all very depressing, I am either looking at the T V, on my IPad or on the phone, no humans, I long for a cuddle, better than any pills, we are pack animals, we were never meant to be alone. Having said all that something had to happen, we have become a very selfish Nation, money is people's God, it's all about materialism. Don't I go on sorry.

It's nice chatting to you, hope we can continue, do take care of yourself, till the next time. 😊

in reply toBaily

I feel the same way sometimes, everyone just wants your money. And I don't have much, I'm in a catch 22 situation here. I'm living with my elderly parents and they don't want me to work at this point because they don't want me to bring the coronavirus home to them. I really want to get at least some part time job, on disability I can work 3 days a week. But I'm living under their roof, I respect what their saying. Do you live by yourself? I used to have my own apartment. I miss it sometimes, but I know how it can feel to be too alone. Would you like to exchange email addresses? I can do that in the private chat. It would be nice to have a pen pal from Scotland. Or you can still message me on here. Whatever you prefer. Take care.

That would be better but I don't know how to do a private message. I'll see if a friend can show me.

Hiya, we have been having some hot weather here......rather unusual so I have been busy in my garden. What a difference the sun makes it puts a spring in your step. You of course will be used to it. All the social things I rormaly go to have been closed since March so I'm finding it rather weird, I miss my friends.

Hope this finds you well.. that's it for now. 😊

in reply toBaily

It always helps me to get outside in the fresh air and not stay cooped up in the house. I like to go for long walks where I live . There's some stores not far away where I can browse and look at things, it's just crazy crossing the street with the traffic. Some people are so impatient and are terrible drivers. I don't want to be run over by some guy in a hurry. I'm trying to look for a part time job. I miss social gatherings too. I used to go to a group that met at a church once a week, now it's still not running. That's why I come on this website now, it's my internet way of trying to socialize with people. I will try to send you a personal message on here soon. Take care!!!☺

Black metal. It helps release my anger. I do like softer music as well, such as Elliott Smith.

I like old Hank William's and George Jones music. They can make me feel better even if I'm happy or sad. Their music just hits you right in the soul

in reply to

I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry- that one really gets to me. So does Crazy by Patsy Cline. Country music has really undergone a lot of changes. One guy I know tells me that now he just calls it rock and roll with cowboy hats!!! I like some country but I'm not into all the country drinking songs. Some current country singers that I think have some good songs are Matt Stell and Dustin Lynch and Kasey Musgraves.

in reply to

Those are great songs. Yea the music today is just so fast and it's always the same lyrics and you cant even really hear them to well. I think that's why I like the older songs because you can hear every word loud and clear and the sound is so simple and pure.

in reply to

I have no idea how old you are, but I get what you're telling me. My mom, who really still enjoys listening to Elvis and the Beatles and Barbra Streisand, she says the same thing, you can't understand the words sometimes in the newer music. Maybe because of the whole music video surge, it's become way more important how the singer looks than the song quality, I don't know. But I truly believe no matter what decade the songs are from, you can find great music from any era. I've become interested in some singers like Carole King and Carly Simon, and the Motown sound too like the Temptations and Aretha Franklin. Dolly Parton has a great personality, and she is still coming out with new songs to this day, I see her on YouTube with some more current music.

in reply to

I'm 28. Yea I dont know why today's music is so fast and every genre sounds the same. Maybe people are just in such a hurry these days that they need their music in a hurry too. It's like we have short attention spans and are always looking for the next best song. I dont like living in a hurry🤨

in reply to

I'm about to turn 50, going through mid life crisis time. I admit I'm a little surprised that you're in your 20s and you know those singers, but that's all right. Even though I like Beyonce, some of her songs are so fast, I'm not sure how she can articulate the words. I do love the song Survivor as I mentioned before, but in the past I've actually tried to sing that- ha, I just garble the words and it's nuts. What other singers or songs do you like?

in reply to

I know that song your talking about survivor. It's a very powerful and motivational song. I like to listen to those type of songs sometimes to change things up. Hank Williams- Cool water, please dont let me love you, cold cold heart, I saw the light, lost highway, log train, lonesome whistle. George Jones- you comb her hair, she thinks I still care, color of the blues, a girl I used to know, white lightning, beneath still waters, good year for the roses, take me, best guitar picker. Waylon Jennings- long way from home, I've been a long time leaving. Tammy wynette- I dont wanna play house, apartment #9, honey. Jean Sheppard- satisfied mind. Gene Autry- jingle, jangle jingle and yodeling hobo. Jimmy Rodgers- hobo Bill's last ride. Buck Owens- together again. Jimmy Dickens- we could. Charley Pride- anybody goin to san antone. That's about it. I didnt want to leave out any they are so special to me.

Rise up by Katy Perry. The lyrics remind me to be strong.

in reply toFlower_2501

That's a great song, I totally agree!!! I love By The Grace Of God. Whenever I'm getting really down on myself or I'm starting to think about suicide, I play that song by her and it helps me to carry on. Firework is very motivating too.

Oh the Beatles are timeless. I love songs like Yesterday, Hey Jude, and Twist and Shout. And I love Don't Stop Believing by Journey. I was going to a karaoke place for awhile and EVERYONE loves that song!!! Some great bands there. I really know more songs by Don Henley from the Eagles than the Eagles. Whenever I get fed up with all the stupid, depressing stuff in the news- like right now actually, I love to blast his song, Dirty Laundry.
