Focus on the plant?
😂
This reminds me of a multiple-week DBT course I attended several years ago. At the start of each session, we would do a mindfulness exercise. This constisted of focusing on an object for a full minute. We were instructed to focus on everything about this object -- colors, patterns, shape, dimensions, etc. We were welcome to talk about it after the minute was up, but we had to be silent and strive to focus on it 100% during that minute. It was a really neat way to start each session!
That actually sounds rly interesting😂 kinda curious- what does that accomplish?
The exercises were designed to teach us mindfulness. By focusing on one thing only, we were learning how to mindfully focus. It was harder than it sounds!! With all the thoughts running through our heads, it's really hard to learn how to calm yourself and just focus.
Not only was it a great way to teach us mindfulness, it was also a great way to make us feel like active participants in the therapy. At the end of each session, the instructor (licensed therapist) would ask who wanted to bring in a object for the next session's mindfulness exercise. I remember bringing in a bowl of colored stones. Someone else brought in one of her potted plants. Someone else even brought in raisins, gave everybody one and lead us in a mindful eating session.
Try being mindful all day ! thats what i practice .
