Temazepam are good but addictive as are all benzodiazepines
Did they work for you? Any side effects? Not too worried about addiction my doc will help me taper off. Ive tried everything natural in the book. Exercise melatonin etc..
Yes as a sleeping tablet they did work well and no groggy feeling next day like amytryptolin or zopiclone which gets prescribed in the u.k.
I took trazodone for sleep for nearly 3 years. Loved this med (helped sleep, anxiety for me) till it stopped working and withdrawals were awful after long term use.
Yea thats normal with most things that work so well. What mg did you take?
I took 50 mg nightly. When it started not being effective I went to 75 (1.5 tablets). It worked okay till it too started declining in effectiveness. The times I went to 100mg side effects were terrible and I’d go back down.
I took it like one or two nights a long time ago and remember it helping but i was also on lexapro which i had terrible side effects on. I think i remember stuffy nose being a side effect?
My stuffy nose went away with continued use. Actually I had no lingering side effects at all unless I got to that higher dose. Ringing in ears lasted a year after I came off it, so annoying too. 😂
Anything past 100mg it becomes antidepressant dose snd no longer sedating.
How long did it take for your withdrawl side effects to go away?
Let’s see, I remember the date I started tapering May 22, 2019. My insomnia was already bad since the med stopped working. Each drop I did resulted in severe dizziness, off balance, exercise intolerance, general unwell feeling... so I just stopped it after 4 weeks. I felt my withdrawals couldn’t get any worse than what I was feeling.
Long story short, my acute withdrawals lasted 24 days. I was in a brain balancing recovery where I waited for my CNS and brain to get back to normalcy for 3 months, with recovery that allowed me for example to exercise without dying each week thereafter. I had a rough time.
Several years ago I took temazepam for insomnia for about six months. It worked well; I think my dose was 30 mg. I also have sleep apnea, and my sleep specialist told me that temazepam slows breathing as a side effect. This is bad for people with sleep apnea, so I stopped taking it. I had no problems discontinuing it.
My shrink then started me on lorazepam, 0.5 mg I think. After a while this stopped being effective, so I stopped it. My shrink had me ask my sleep specialist which med would be best for me (I refused Ambien and its clones.) My sleep specialist suggested trazodone, and I've been on it for about 2-3 years. Trazodone works well for me; I take 100 mg. I was supposed to decrease it to 50 mg, but I keep forgetting to buy a pill cutter -- seriously. The only side effect I have is increased dry mouth and dry eyes. 100 mg is a sub-therapeutic dose, ie, it's insufficient to act as an antidepressant.
In the 1990s I took trazodone as an antidepressant. My dose was 350 mg. I needed to take it with yogurt because it caused tremendous stomach upset. I fell asleep almost immediately after going to bed, but I experienced extreme daytime somnolence. This was a major problem. I also gained about 50 pounds, which I've since lost with difficulty. I don't recall any problems with discontinuation.
tl;dr If you have sleep apnea, skip the temazepam. If you want to avoid dry eyes and mouth, skip the trazodone.
Stay safe.
Temazepam works really well from my experience and it gives you a good restful sleep with no real side effects that I experienced. I like that medication quite a bit for its purpose.
I am set up for a sleep study soon but not sure if i have sleep apnea. I find 1mg of lorazepam to be decent for sleep. I usually take that for anxiety. I think i will give temazepam and trazodone both a chance. With your sleep apnea did you have frequent nightime urinination?
No, I do not. I use a CPAP. If you do have sleep apnea, using a CPAP is a lifesaver. Make sure your mask fits well.
Trazodone knocked me out at first, but then I built a tolerance for it and would wake up in the middle of the night. It also gave me crazy dreams
Oh yes, trazodone give vivid crazy dreams!
Yeah! And the dreams made my anxiety worse
Hello, yes it is awful when we cannot sleep, I was on trazadone 50 mg, asked my Dr. if I could go to 100 mg, she agreed. I puts me to sleep nicely, I have been on it close to a year now, I do have some interesting dreams, other than that I am doing well, I need good sleep. I hope and pray I do not build up a tolerance, I hate it when I cannot sleep, had this problem on/off since childhood. I wish you well and great success with whatever you try. Sending love n hugs......
Trazodone works well for me. Not addictive and wide range of dosages until it’s right for you.
I took Transadone for about 20 years,Itr gave me about three hours sleep. I quit about 14 months ago. I go 48 hours without sleep now. I am Bipolar and have General Anxiety Disorder I was also taking Klonopins. Addicting. But at least I slept some. Probably took 40 medications over the years. None worked. Can't even leave my house now with anxiety and depression. I wi
