How to stop manually breathing?

I'm always aware of my breathing and I keep having to breathe manually. It makes me feel so stressed as I feel like I'm not breathing in enough oxygen still.

It has been like this since late last year and I'm so tired, it feels so uncomfortable and fustrating.

You don't need to remember to breathe as it's an automatic body function. The fact you are so conscious of it is fueling your anxiety and making it harder for you.

First of all... Relax.

Breathing is one of the few things that can be done both consciously and subconsciously.

The fact you have conscious awareness of your breathing, can actually be really beneficial.

Take deeper and slower breaths.. this will help you to feel calmer. Stop anything else you're doing and just observe everything.. your breath, your thoughts, your physical body.. basically this is meditation!

Always remind yourself that, it's okay to just 'be' and that not focussing on your breathing, is safe and okay for you.. just like when you're sleeping.. your body takes care of itself.

Try to notice when you've stopped thinking about it or controlling it. It does happen.. you maybe just need to reconnect with that realisation.

Exercising might help with that.

I hope this is helpful.. 👍🏻

I can see from your other threads breathing issues and anxiety has been an issue for you for quite some time.

I look at it like this, you are breathing without conscious effort when you sleep and I’m sure you are doing it other times as well. If you were low on oxygen, trust the fact that you would need assistance from a medical device.

It sounds like maybe you stay in a state of panic most of your day and your anxiety runs quite high and this does sounds exhausting and frustrating. Getting your anxiety managed instead of it managing you sounds like something you should investigate.
