This is my first time writing about this online so not sure how to start...my names Immanuel, I’m 26...I’ve never been diagnosed by a doctor with having social anxiety but I’ve had all the symptoms since I was around 16-17 years old. It’s so bad for me that I’ve never had a job, gotten my drivers license or any other adult responsibilities lol I went years without seeking help because the thought of having to speak to anyone, let alone a doctor, would terrify me. The few times I do go out and have to speak to people I’m not comfortable with, I get nervous, I start shaking, my face turns red, I slur my words and feel like hiding. It’s only getting worse as I’m getting older and I feel helpless all the time. I try to think positive and tell myself I can overcome this on my own but every time I think I have the opportunity to do so, I back out. I’m not sure what to do.

Hi, welcome to the forum. I feel you are needing and wanting some help. If there is one thing that you can do to ease the stress of seeking help in person, it is to take advantage of all the medical help now freely available via telephone or teleconference. Telehealth is meeting a health professional remotely in whatever format you prefer. You don't have to leave home. I am making contact with my GP this way. After doing a few consults this way, I am likely to keep doing so after C-19 virus ends except for essential visits for blood pressure testing and blood tests. The first step to overcoming the anxiety beast is to pick up the phone. Our forum members are here for you. As is said in the Nike ad, just do it.🐱

I'm with you on social anxiety! I am 26 now and still struggle with it. The most helpful thing for me was finding people I could trust to know I experience it and could love me through it. I have two close friends I can rely on in social situations and who encourage me and boost my confidence. One thing I learned from my therapist was that others around me are not thinking about me as much as I am thinking about how much they are thinking about me, if that makes sense, lol.
