Recurring nightmares about dying

Hey guys,

For over a year, I have recurring nightmares about someone or something trying to kill me. I usually wake up once I die in the dream. I wake up with my heart racing, terrified and feeling unsafe.

For the rest of the day, I'm left kind of scarred by the experience because it always feels so real and I always remember the details.

Does anyone else get this or have an explanation for it?

I have Generalised Anxiety so I figured it might be that but any explanations or remedies would be appreciated?

I know how you feel, I used to get really bad nightmares which often left me scared to go to sleep. I think the best advice would be to try not to dwell on them during the day as we are still reliving them in our subconscious minds . Try to keep your mind occupied doing things you enjoy, I found reading a nice book before going to sleep helped a lot. Are you on any medication that could cause the nightmares?

You know it's only a dream. For some reason the gramophone/phonograph needle has got stuck. Naturally, it's unsettling.

I don't believe dreams have a meaning. Just random bits of trivia our sleeping brain decides to settle on.

Just accept them knowing your repetitive dream is meaningless. And here's the important bit, before too long your subconscious mind will get bored with repeating this dream and it will cease to trouble you.

Hi PinkLion, I am a big believer that dreams happen when our subconscious mind

is trying to figure out an answer to our problems. Dreams/nightmares aren't what

they seem to be but rather have an in depth answer as to what may be wrong with

our lives. Don't be afraid of dreams, they are there to help you with your issues of

anxiety.

The two important things in my life since my Agoraphobia are my home and my car.

In my dreams, I am always lost and can't find my way home or I'm in an unfamiliar

place and can't remember where I parked my car. It's an insecurity I have. I must

have my safe place (home) and my way to escape (car).

It's not always a simple answer but it usually has to do what we fear most. :) xx

My car features regularly in my dreams and I'm often back working at places I was before I retired 12 years ago. Last night I dreamt about a boss I worked with 30 years ago. But nothing ever happens in my dreams.
