Increasing dosage?

Depresseddoglover profile image

I am on the lowest recommended dose of Prozac and it has improved my quality of life significantly, but I'm still consistently at about a 5/10 (from a 0/10). Would increasing the dosage increase my positive affect even more? Or, so long as it is effective the dosage does not need to be increased? I am also on the lowest dose of Wellbutrin which I found to be completely ineffective. Should I increase that dosage as well or remove it completely from my cocktail? I am currently overseas and have no access to my physician so I am navigating this on my own. Thanks

I’ve never taken Prozac; but, i’ve taken a low dose of Wellbutrin, which also did nothing positive for me & i weaned myself off of it without any major side effects.

Thank-you, I'm still wondering if I should forego it all together or if an increased dosage may work. It's a frustrating process of trial and error.

I wouldn't do anything with meds without guidance from an MD.

By 5/10 you mean five for stability? If you are only at a 5 I would think the goal would be higher.

Do you exercise and all those basics we talk about to help you?

Hi thanks for your response, 5 as in overall mood. I do exercise, meditate, journal, volunteer and all that jazz. I looked into a variety of journal articles about medications that have a flat dose- response relationship, indicating that a higher dose does not increase efficacy. There are conflicting findings but some demonstrate increased efficacy between 20-40 mg, but not 40-80mg. I have enough experience to know that individual results may vary and it takes trial and error but I am currently in a developing country where it is extremely difficult to get prozac so I didn't want to try to increase my dose if I couldn't expect any results.

Yes I agree with your comments.

I would research on Google Prozac. I'm sure there's a limit on the mgs, but iif it's helping wonderful news.

I'm not a psychiatrist, so I can't tell you what to take or stop. I know when stopping any medication you have to wean off of it especially the Wellbutrin

Or any type of anti anxiety or depression medication

Good luck. If it was me I would take a 3/4 of a pill I'm not saying that you should but I'm saying for myself personally I would take a little bit more than what is prescribed and see how you feel and then you would know what to do

Always get advisement bc none of us know your health history or anything like that so you have to be really careful
