Hi guys for about two years I’ve feast physically awful I never feel comfortable or at ease like I can’t just sit back and enjoy things or enjoy life like I couldn’t just go to the cinema sit back and enjoy the film. I don’t lay back at night and enjoy the pitter patter of rain on my window or feel excitement all I ever feel is physically awful tense and worn out is the best description I can use for how I feel. I’ve been to GP and was told I have a folic acid deficiency but I’m too afraid of taking the medication I just hate putting things in my body like that. I’m also terrified of side affects. I was also told I’m at the low end of a healthy weight I’ve taken steps to correct this by eating more and healthier food options. But over all I just want to feel at ease and content and able to enjoy life. As I feel that at 22 the time to enjoy things is slipping away

I feel so bad physically! But I’m afraid to take the folic acid.
There are generally few side effects to taking vitamins in normal dosages. You can always start with a small amount and work your way up over time. I had a vitamin d deficiency and my doctor what me to take a mega dose once a week for a month. I ended up taking a daily amount for like 3 or 4 months instead. I was worried about side effect with the large amount all at once. What is the amount that your doctor is recommended. You can also increase your intake of high folate foods like spinach or beans.
Hi blue sky thank you very much I have attempted to eat more folate rich foods and it was 5mg I believe
Hi as far as I am aware folic acid doesn't have any side effects and I am on it too. It's good you are eating more greens especially ones like spinach which is loaded with it. Lack of foliate can lead to pernicious anemia which could be a reason you are so tired. x
Hi hypercat as ever you’ve given me some wonderful advice thankfully I was yoked by my gp it isn’t that severe as of yet I think I need to face my fears as hard as it is I know that I’m doing the right thing and the support of you and many others on this forum have helped me progress further than I thought possible. I hope you’re well my friend
Make smoothies for on the go after you have breakfast buy some spinach throw some protein powder in there and berries help hide the taste I use a kiwi banana strawberry mix and add blueberries & use apple juice. If you’re deficient I know I am in iron it really affects other things why grumpy get it in anyway you can. There’s a very expensive vitamin mineral supplement called empower that’s good for people with mental health issues. They say after 2 weeks you can tell the difference I’m just starting it. I’ve been in antacids too long I’m not right. I think why low iron. Just an idea.
I take folic acid and have no side effects.
Folic acid is just a vitamin that occurs naturally in certain food sources. Taking it in tablet form wouldn't be anything drastic.
Also, do try to be patient, you are very young. I really wouldn't live my twenties over again, life has been easier since.
