Medicine?

So I was diagnosed with anxiety in October and began taking lexapro at 10mg. As the months went on, I began to be extremely tired and unmotivated and became very depressed. I couldn't even force myself out of bed unless I HAD to. I recently decided to just not take any medication (of course I'm going to ween myself off of it). Has anyone else found that medicine makes things worse? I just haven't felt like myself since taking them. My doctor started me on Wellbutrin and I had HORRIBLE side effects so I honestly just give up when it comes to medication. Diet and exercise it is!!!

Have you talked to your doctor about cbt therapy? Maybe consider yoga, meditation and practicing mindfulness?

Of course chaitealatte, we all respond differently from any medications out there.

I personally have been on Lexapro for 7 years with no side effects but I do understand

what you are saying about "not feeling like yourself". I use to feel that way when on

benzos. As difficult as it was to get off the benzo meds, it was astounding in how clear

my thoughts became once more when I did. I was myself again. An amazing feeling.

I am not against medication. There is a time and need for meds when we no longer

live but just exist. When we no longer go forward but just stay stuck. Once we have

taken that path, it's time to find other modalities that can help. I use Meditation now

in place of a chill pill. I use deep breathing which has the power to lower b/p, adrenaline

and stop anxiety in it's tracks.

So good luck chaitealatte in finding what works for you. There is no right or wrong answer.

A lot of ppl body’s are sensitive like mine I had an allergic reaction to Wellbutrin also I work on my breathing technique find things to make u happy try to eat right I even started school online to keep my mind focus on something else and confide in a close friend or relative I don’t think meds really work for me and I had a doctor tell me with some ppl meds make them worse

I stopped taking Lexapro because it made me feel so tired and blah. I was told that more often than not, you have to try many medications before you find one that works for you. It does seem like I felt the same way as you did or similar while taking this particular medication. I am now on Paxil and it seems to be working really well for me. I would recommend just keep trying everything you can, whether it be medication or anything else you can think of. Eventually, you will find something that works for you! My new medication is giving me motivation to exercise, which is making me feel even better, so it seems to be a snowball effect.
