Citalopram for depression and Anxiety

Hi, can anyone help.

I have been taking Citalopram 20 or 40 mgs on and off for twenty years.

After a recent scary visit to A&E and a stint in there on fluids with low blood pressure, my Citalopram was stopped.

Since coming home I have not started it again but get these bouts of what I can only describe as electric shocks in my head and brain.

They last about 2 seconds.

I have had these before if I took my Citalopram late or have been off it before and when I swapped to Veneflaxine.

Does anyone know if this goes away and what it is. No doctors at my surgery can offer any help or advise.

Thanks

Very much appreciated.

Have you talked to a therapist, and your pharmacist may be able to help on more info about side effects than some doctors.

Hi.

Yep I have and they just said they had bot heard or known of this.

Its always happened but goes away once I take a Citalopram but now I am no longer taking it, I wondered if anyone else had the same experiences as me.

Its okay I can drive and function, its just a bit odd.

Thanks x

Hi, FeeFeeBates,

I haven't had that problem with Citalopram (CeleXA) but I did have it when I was on Cymbalta (Duloxetine).

If I didn't take it right away, I felt like my head was floating above my body and had electricity-like pulses in my head, hands, arms, shoulders. I tried to take it for about 2 months before I went on Lamictal (Lamotrigine, used mostly for seizures but works on depression). Then later onto Citalopram which has been one for me that works and doesn't cause electric pulses. My doctor then added Buproprion (Wellbutrin) and I'm doing better than ever. At least until I realize I'm short of money.

But if you are having issues like this, it was a good thing your doctor took you off of it. There are so many medications out there but it takes time to find the right ones. One person's medications does not always work the same in someone else. Hope this helps.
