Hi I’m new here and I need a fresh perspective. I have been in therapy for anxiety for several years and I feel like I am just getting by. I have been on several medications gabapentin and pristine being the primary ones for the past year. I was in treatment for an eating disorder earlier this year which I have been dealing with for over 30 years. Last year around this time my anxiety was so bad I couldn’t eat. I just decorated my house for Christmas and it brought up all the old feelings of having to go to treatment. I felt like such a failure. Needless to say my anxiety has reared its ugly head as it does seem to do every two weeks lately. Like to hear what works for anybody else when they need to calm down. Thank you.

You guessed it need help with anxiety
Hi Blu.
Deep breathing from my Diaphragm (stomach) helps me. EMDR is also helpful. It involves moving something on the left side of your body, waiting a couple of seconds and then moving something on the right side of your body. I use either my toes or one of my fingers. I'll contract the toe mucsles of my left foot, wait a few seconds and then contract the toe muscles of my right foot. I then repeat the process.
These two things help me.
Welcome💐
I have to be diligently proactive.
I rest/sleep at the same times daily.
I meditate / pray throughout the day.
I do gentle exercise daily.
Breathing exercises are important. During the day I do a few minutes of deep breathing often.
I don’t let myself get irritated without taking time away to deal with the irritation.
I give my moods names and I speak it out loud.
I hope being with us helps.
Sending you strength and peace

Welcome to the forum! Glad you're here! I think Neuronerd and Ronbo have excellent suggestions. Also some guided meditation can work too. There are CDs you can buy for that. Hope these suggestions help!
Anxiety for me was constant the fear I had consumed me. The things that helped me was retraining my brain...every time a lie pops in like “I will fail at this” I replace it with I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me which is a Bible verse. My faith in God has helped me overcome the anxiety I once had. Fear is a liar. There is freedom from it so don’t give up keep fighting. Keep fighting. I am praying for you. -Rachel
