I wish there was a one rule for all method but when it comes to anxiety, everyone reacts differently and everyone learns to cope in different ways.

One of the first things that might help you is identifying your triggers. What causes your anxiety? Is there a clear pattern or is it generalised and a feeling you experience in everyday situations? Anxiety is the body's response to stress so the first thing you need to do is try to figure out what is causing you to be stressed. It could be financial, family issues, health worries or your job or any number of things. It could be just one thing, or it could be many. In some cases, it's chronic and literally everything causes you to be stressed.

Do you suffer anxiety attacks where you feel choking sensation, hard to breathe etc...not the same as a panic attack but similar in many ways. Panic attacks tend to come out of the blue and are more intense, where anxiety attacks are more associated with triggers and can last longer but are more mild.

Reflecting on the reason for your anxiety will help you deal with it when it strikes but in the meantime, if you're not sure what you are anxious about, then you can still work on ways to cope....

They include changing your thought pattern, learning to think more positively and challenging your fears in order to overcome them.

Deep breathing really helps me with my anxiety. Have you tried relaxation techniques like meditation or yoga or mindfulness techniques. They involve focusing on the present moment and slowing everything down so that you learn to live a day at a time and stop stressing about things that may never happen.

Exercise is a great way to deal with excess nervous energy which can cause anxiety. A good run can help you feel good about yourself and banish stress but any form of exercise is good.

It can also to help to write down your thoughts, write down your worries and concerns and when you do, it gets it out of your head but also, it helps you to sometimes see that they are not as bad as you think they are.

Often, it is the uncertainty that is most daunting and scary because what we worry about tends to be in the future, but the future has not happened yet. Therefore, we are worrying about events that are often beyond our control and so it helps to learn acceptance and contentment by learning that you cannot control everything. Trying to control an outcome is what leads to anxiety in many cases.

Eat well and reduce stress too and you may well start to feel better. Don't live in your head. When you find yourself worrying about something, shake it off and go do something nice.

If you still find it hard to cope you can try medications and also therapy like CBT.

I suffer terrible anxiety at times and have been in hospital with panic attacks because of the stress. I am learning ways to cope with this and all of the above has helped me to keep control of my mind and stop it from running away with me.

Control your thoughts and your imagination and try to remind yourself that much of the time you are worrying about things that have not even happened yet and may not happen at all so save your energy and work on the present day.

That's enough to deal with as it is!

Best of luck to you.
