Can anyone out there help me with relieving stress? My whole body feels weird I am on Prozac and Lorazpam and this does not seem to help. I just want to hid in the house, I miss my grandkids because I feel like this. I have a psychiastrist and a counselor and it is not helping.

Hi

Sorry to hear you are going through this.

I myself have suffered with anxiety /panic disorder for some years. Until very recently I was on a Downwards spiral. I have found mindfulness a great help. You tube is a great source of guided meditation. The last few weeks I have found the best help was accept what's happening and let it pass. A good book to read is

I think you might like this book – "Self-Help for Your Nerves: Learn to relax and enjoy life again by overcoming stress and fear" by Dr. Claire Weekes.

I couldn’t leave my house at one point due to my anxiety. A small thing that really helped me was 7-11 breathing, which my therapist told me to try. My anxiety can get so bad I feel like I have electricity running through me and I feel sick and shaky; this is the only thing that helps. Either through your nose or mouth (mouth is more helpful to me personally) breathe in for 7 seconds, out for 11. Count and focus on the counting. It’ll take your mind off your anxiety, and my therapist told me breathing out for longer than you’re breathing in triggers something in your body that tells it it’s okay to slow the heart rate down, which will help you feel better overall. You can practice it for as long as you need, and extend or shorten the breaths, as long as you keep it to the same ratio, but try to keep your breaths deep and long where you can, even though this can be hard when you’re having high anxiety. Sometimes I only have to do this for a few minutes and it helps me so so so much, so I hope you can find some success with it too!

Sometimes meds do have unwanted side effects . Prozac is known to have them making some feel worse so if you have just started a course. may be you should go back to your doctor as specialists say to take them for six weeks. The other drug is more for anxiety. Usually there is a trigger of anxiety and depression which may be worse with underlying medical problems such as diabetes or other auto immune diseases. If it were me I would come off Prozac as you are feeling so odd and you have brain fog. It must be debilitating so you fear going out and seeing your grandchildren. If you had a bad dose of flu and felt awful you would not feel self-conscious by how you feel. It's because you are unable to enjoy your life with the worries that beset you. Finding out what these worries are about might help you come to terms with them. Can you discuss them with any of your friends or family? If you haven't had a health check for vitamins and iron levels of have problem sleeping feeling worse after several nights poor sleep this is bound to affect your coping mechanisms. Sleeping tablets have helped me as without them I am awake all night long. Your life is empty without seeing your grandchildren so the sooner you see them for may be a little time each time you visit it will boost your morale. Your family need you too so if you are feeling under the weather just tell them you are feeling a bit low. They will understand. Daily contact with family by text or phone helps to settle your mind. Hope you pluck up courage to say hi to them rather than leave it for days struggling. Take care.

Thank you. I have been struggling with this for so long I have been back and forth to the hospital numerous times thinking there was someting wrong with me they are kind of sick of seeing me so they made appt's for me for all kinds of doctors and they don't come up with anything with the exception of COPD. My whole body feels so weird. I am going to talk to my psychiastrist about the prozac, I have been on this for about 8 weeks not and things don't seem to be getting any better I actually feeel worse I cry all the time that is one of the reasons I don't go see my grandkids I don't want to worry them but I miss them so much. There is so much coming up in my life both my daughters are getting married and I am so afraid I am going to miss this because I don't want to leave the house I feel like I look awful, I am losing my hair, I bought 3 wigs and none of them stay on me I am such a mess.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this!! I too struggle with anxiety and panic disorder that’s starting to hit me again. I will say that obviously one med does not fit all and this crappy thing with this kind of stuff is the trial and error of medications to see which one will work for you. I would def go back to your dr and let them know what you’re feeling, see if this is common for that drug or if maybe switching to something else could help. I would keep up on your lorazepam for the time being until you get the other meds figured out. Try and find something that ground you, calms you. Take a day to yourself to relax and recharge. It’s okay to stay in bed most the day once in a while, watch you’re fave shows, cuddle an animal do some self care. Also just tell yourself this will not last forever. That is what I tell myself and it helps sometimes. I am so so sorry that you’re going through this, I hope and pray we all find peace from this!!! I’m here if you need to talk!!! Oh I also would try some essential oils, sitting in a dim lit room, so guided imagery and breathing, and put some music or sounds like waves on that helps me sometimes to be able to relax a little.

Please don’t let the fear of crying put you off seeing your grandkids. I think children are quite accepting. If it happens it happens. If they see you cry they will be ok. Grandad cries sometimes too! Things should get better. Walking helps me, but everyone is different you will remember what helps you too xx

Hair loss can be due to thyroid disease. It is common with low iron and ferritin levels. B12 and folate deficiency plus vitamin d deficiency can make you feel fearful. Pernicious anaemia is major cause of depression as can be diabetes. Hope you have the courage to ask for these tests booked with nurse . This can help rule out other problems which may not be helped by mental health drugs. Having a new hair do or buying some clothes especially for the wedding may boost your morale. Take care of yourself so you may feel better with the right medication.

Homeopathy has helped. I use Nelson's clikpak . There are various remedies. Aconite is used for shock hypersensitivity to pain touch and hearing muscle pains restless see shaking and convulsions.
