Often Times The Black Community Sweeps Depression Under The Rug. It Is Something That Is Not Talked About Or Frowned Upon. The Highs And Lows Of Manic Depression Often Makes Me Question Life... Depression Isn’t Taken Seriously Until It’s Too late .. Depression Isn’t Taken Seriously If You’re Not Always Outwardly Showing sadness ..

I am depressed , I am struggling , I am reaching out .

Hi, I agree the black community does not recognize depression as much as it should. I have dealt with the same thing amongst my family and being open about dealing with depression and anxiety, and that is how I found this outlet. I know it’s hard but not everybody was meant to understand everything, supportive yes, but understanding, maybe not. And it can be difficult and lonely knowing that you are dealing with something that you can’t talk to anyone about in your personal life, but you can talk here and not feel alone, while at the same time figuring out other ways to help yourself.

Thank you

These concerns you mention are the same to a lesser extent in the White Community. although it is the same generally within a family environment . Doctors however in the UK take it serious and for many patients Depression and Anxiety are open wounds that need to be closed

It is a hard place when Depressed and you would benefit from a course of CPD to help you address your problems and move on. I gather you do not live in the UK and so it can be hard to advise. Try Mindfulness Relaxation Technique, books can be purchased on Amazon.

Breathing exercises do also help

Try addressing you depression cut each problem into small bites, do the same with your other concerns. You will find sorting these small bites of your problem and sorting out that problem, when you get stuck do the same thing to sort out each bite.

You will need to also gain confidence as you sort your concerns out, you will eventually move on as you gain ways of addressing your concerns.

Just because you have a depression or Anxiety does not mean you will need medication. The most important thing is you are able to walk away from your problems. However remember life is full of problems and concerns, even those without depression will need to address their problems and move on. If your GP gives medications give them time to work

I think family members, of any race, have an especially hard time dealing with the depression of a loved one. They are in some denial I think because it is too hurtful to deal with honestly. I hope you can find some useful information here ( bit.ly/2qqU2iq ) that can help you in your daily struggles.
